Recently talks surrounding the term “human cloud” have been the hottest trend in the Human Resource (HR) and labor services procurement industry. But what does the so-called human cloud indicate?
Human Cloud - Adapting To Modern Businesses
It is a technology industry term that has started to take over when describing online/digital labor and staffing platforms. The human cloud technology houses information about on-demand workers, and lets employers tap into the fast-growing gig economy to find and use workers on projects that range from redesigning a website to re-evaluating product portfolio. With business conditions getting more challenging, markets and companies must be prepared to change course quickly if the business environment changes.
The demand to constantly be ready to change has impacted work-forces and how companies build the right workforce. Lately, the human cloud has become a popular way to engage people for work projects, and entire tasks, including payment for the work, completed through the online platforms and this ability to find and engage a wide range of skills via a website is attractive to companies and freelancers.
Surge In Application
This industrial term has seen a growth over the past two years and could be seen as a further uptick in use in 2021 as workers are laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, seeking new ways to find work. Staffing Company Survey reports indicate that many companies are partnering with a human cloud service or have invested in this kind of service to create a more fluid workforce to increase their agility, flexibility and operate efficiently.
Platform Models
It involves 3 types of platform models: Crowdsourcing ( is the collection of information, opinions, or work from a group of people, usually sourced via the Internet), Online work services and Online Staffing platform. Online Staffing Platform is a model that enables specific hirers and specific (typically contingent) workers to enter into complete and transact work arrangements. This is the oldest human cloud model ( arising from the 2000s).
OLTC platforms are also seen as the harbinger of this revolution, emerging as a key means for organizations to engage free agent talent. They refer to any platform in which the internet is used to mediate the full scope of engagement between a specific hirer and a specific worker. Human cloud technologies have been serving as a boon to reduce the time that the team is currently spending on manual management processes, eliminate costly and outdated systems, speed up the entire staffing, on-boarding process and frees up managers time to spend on more important business goals.
Conclusion
With unemployment at a record and the second wave of COVID-19 already well-established, potentially forcing further lockdowns at a local or country level well into 2021; the number of candidates registering on human cloud platforms will probably increase, as more traditional methods of hiring requiring in-person interviews are stalled and the battle/need for using remote talent will endure.
