Why #modi_job_do and #modi_rojgar_do?

A post on Twitter reads -

'Students demand
(1) timely notification
(2) timely exam
(3) timely result
(4) waiting list
(5) Reform in exam'

So what exactly is this new trend on Twitter about? While it seems pretty self-explanatory, we'll try looking at the background and cover what triggered this development on Twitter.

What?

This new hashtag on Twitter has been trending on number 1 worldwide, and is inching toward 5 million globally, and a second (Hindi) hashtag also growing towards 2 million. People are even claiming that the numbers have been doctored and that it was well over 6 million at one point. The accusation has been that BJP's IT Cell has been deleting the hastags.

Why?

In the backdrop of the pandemic, with millions of people losing jobs, and with India's unprecedented and exponential GDP shrink, there has been growing uncertainty of jobs in the Indian market. PM Modi had promised creating 2 crore jobs per year, but 15 crore jobs have already been lost. The future, it seems, is bleak for the youth.

With more and more people graduating from colleges, and looking for jobs, the search has been frankly exasperating for a lot of students. SSC students, in particular, have been left in the dark, and are finding support on social media.

Through this hashtag, India's youth have been asking - 'Where are our jobs?' Even the opposition is milking the trend. This is what INC's Twiitter post read -

'If the 3 anti-farmer laws are implemented, the youth of India will not get employment. Why is Modi Govt oblivious to the future of our youth?'

A certain user called Rofl Gandhi 2.0 quipped, in context to the ongoing match between India and England, wrote -

'A low scoring game at Narendra Modi Stadium is a fitting tribute to his low scoring in jobs.'

Meanwhile, PMO India tweeted -
'Across India our farmers are innovating. It is our duty to ensure their produce gets good markets. Good roads do exactly that. The four-laning of the road will also draw industries in this area and generate job opportunities for local youth: PM'

This is seen as a response to the trend while not addressing it directly. Additionally, several people have also come in support of the government and asking people to not spread propaganda and understand the slow job markets across the globe.

Conclusion

It stands to see if and when any official statement is made regarding this trend. For now, it seems as if this viral hashtag is here to stay and grow.
