How did you come up with this idea and go about executing it?

I grew up around Stories. My mother used to tell me stories while growing up. Stories about anything and everything. And when I had my daughter, I tried something similar however full-day work kept me busy. Showing her video was out of the question and I started looking for a solution where she could LISTEN to stories rather than WATCH them.

When I did not find a perfect solution, I talked to mums around and they started telling me about how they grew up on stories too. Soon HeyCloudy was born (initially it was called the little people).

From Stories, HeyCloudy moved to Music, Riddles, Facts and anything audio related. We focus on the age group of 2-8 years because this is where the maximum brain development happens. At this age, having the right surroundings along with providing toys/mediums that can stimulate the brain is critical. HeyCloudy is one of the mediums that helps.

While it is “a mobile app” it is screen-free because all content is audio that a child can listen to. The app can also be connected to Bluetooth.

What has been your biggest challenge that you faced and how did you overcome that?

Coming from a corporate background with Tech and Product experience, developing a concept was not a challenge. However, the tight budget was a big big big roadblock for me.

HeyCloudy was bootstrapped on personal savings and finding a balance between quality work and budget was a challenge that took me a while to overcome.

What do you think are the most important qualities of a successful entrepreneur?

Persistence and being able to find a win-win solution for all stakeholders.

What are some of the most important factors for running a successful business?

Be flexible, things often change however be true to “WHY” you started on the journey.

What are your tips for the first time and aspiring entrepreneurs?

1. Imagine/Draw the world once the product/solution you want to build is out there

2. Figure out WHY you want to do this (this will keep you sane when the world gets crazy)

3. Find funds for 1 year

4. Find a co-founder (yes you need it)

5. Go for it.

How can one overcome a hurdle of lack of funds when starting up?

All businesses need to fund. Be aware of what you need and find people who connect with your idea (your WHY the product is needed). They help you grow to the next level.
