I first saw a camera when I was 5 years old. That’s the day I started dreaming about having my own camera but when I bought my first camera I was 22 years old. This long waiting period taught me a skill of visualizing things without looking through a view finder! 


1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I come from communication and humanitarian background. I did my MA in mass communication.. Later, I joined Shari academy of photography in Mumbai to pursue commercial photography. 

After completing my diploma in commercial photography I assisted a senior photographer for a year. Later I moved to Bangalore and started freelancing..


2. How and when did you realize your passion for photography?

I first saw a camera when I was 5 years old. That’s the day I started dreaming about having my own camera but when I bought my first camera I was 22 years old. This long waiting period taught me a skill of visualizing things without looking through a view finder! 

In my early days of photography I got an opportunity to meet late Mr. T. S Satyan, a well known photo Journalist, who was in his 80’s. He never taught me the techniques of photography! But his images inspired me to visualize artistically.


3. What are some tips you would like to share with amateur photographers? 

World is your canvas, open your eyes. There are innumerable visuals around us. ‘Alive and Clicking’.


4.  What are the important skills one should have to be a successful photographer?

There is a lot of difference between taking a picture and making a picture. A great technical knowledge and art of visualizing is very important to create a stunning visuals.


5. What are various opportunities available for aspiring photographers?

There are so many opportunities available for photographers from documentary to high end commercials. A photographer should decide or find what is his or her passion. Because you can photograph anything and everything. From the beginning I have been passionate about humanitarian and architectural photography.


6. Which is your favourite book and why?

My Favorite book is Papilon. It’s an autobiographical novel of Henri Charriere. Papilon’s never ending attempts to come out of the situations, he fails again and again, but never gives up.
