Around the time I left the RN, I decided to write a book. Unfortunately, I became a victim of a Vanity Press Publisher. Luckily I managed to sell all my copies of A Basketful of Sleepers and recoup my money.
Since then, I had an agent who retired and a publisher who went bust. I now self-publish and make enough money to pay for my bee and a few meals out.
Tell us more about your background and journey.
I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, but my parents moved to Londons East End. I left home at the age of fourteen and found work as a deckhand on luxury yachts. Joined the Royal Navy and stayed for thirty-five years. I am happily married to Sheila.
When did you decide you wanted to be a writer?

I have read and enjoyed every book written by Stieg Larson, Clive Cussler and Robert Ludlum. Choosing a favourite writer is difficult, but I would choose Tom Clancy. His storylines and descriptive powers are brilliant,
Where does your inspiration lie?
Great question. Initially, I see an idea in a newspaper, on a news broadcast, anywhere. I’ll do some preliminary research, and if I can see a storyline, I start writing. More often than not, I fail to write more than two or three chapters. If I pass chapter three, a book will evolve.
