I am a makeup artist and stylist. I started working as a makeup artist 10 years ago and it has been an incredible journey. I got to meet a lot of celebrities, successful models, top designers and it has been wonderful getting to know them and be with them.
Working with all of them has always been close to my heart because from being my clients they have become my friends. This has been the best time of my life and I have recently completed a ten year long incredible journey in this field.
2. What motivated you to choose this career?
I have always been inclined towards beauty. As a kid, I used to steal my sister’s makeup, try it on myself and see how it looked. Back in those days, I had an inclination towards fashion. I loved to follow all the models. This intrigued me into finding myself a place, a work where I would be engrossed in my passion.

Fashion, beauty, makeup, glitz and glamour were something that has always interested me. It was something that I had on my mind constantly. All this inspired me to finally give it a try on another person.
I tried it on one of my friends first, and it turned out to be quite a success, since people loved it. I have also been a performer and I would do the makeup for the dancers and it was a great learning experience for me.
To be true, I never really thought of being a makeup artist, instead I was always focused on what I would like to do. It was my passion that drew me to what I am today. And I feel very lucky to have chosen this occupation for myself.
3. How can one build a clientele as a makeup artist?
I think to build a clientele as a makeup artist, one needs to be really versatile. You need to listen to the clients and pay attention to what they want. You have to do the makeup and you have to educate them about it. So, one needs to be likeable, patient and humble while dealing with the different personalities.
One also needs to give new ideas to the different people one comes across. You also need to be your own selves. People tend to like your originality and when people like you, they are willing to work with you.
4. What are some of your top makeup tips?
I really like to go simple and subtle. When I do a makeup look, I like either the eyes or the lips stand out. So, this is one top tip that if I am working with the eyes, I would keep neutral lips or if the lips are brighter, I would go basic with the eyes. That is my style. I would also suggest people to go minimal.

This is because you are real and unlike the Instagram pictures with filters, I believe one needs to show skin instead of just makeup. I feel that makeup is to enhance your beauty, your features and therefore must be kept minimal.
5. What fashion advice would you give to the aspiring models and beauty pageant participants?
I feel that one should be comfortable with their own skin and clothes. At the same time the aspiring models and beauty pageant participants need to know the trends. Even though you don’t follow the trends, they help you in finding out what your personality is like.
