I presume that the idea of success differs from person to person because everyone’s journey is different. Personally, I have realized that consistency, hard work and dedication towards the process which you are doing are indeed important.
1.Tell us about your upbringing, background and journey.
I am Jaya Jagdeesh and I am 19 years old. I was born in Tamil Nadu and I was raised in my village in Trichy until I completed my 6th std, later I went to Kuwait to pursue my education further, because my dad wanted me and my brother to continue our education in Kuwait as he works there. when I was about to go to Kuwait, I was so excited because I thought I am just going to live the happiest part of my life but unfortunately that was not all of it, little did I know that my life’s entire perspective was about to change.
I was 12 years old when I went to Kuwait, I dint know to speak even a single sentence in English because the exposure towards English in my school was not that superior. Whereas my classmates in Kuwait used to be so good at it because they have studied in a CBSE school since childhood. My first day in school was the most heart-rending day because other people used to talk in languages which I dint even understand. Not even a single person knew to speak Tamil. At that time, it was the only language which I knew. So, it was so strenuous for me to communicate, hence I thought that this place is not for me and I don’t deserve it. But on the other side, I couldn’t leave the school too because my dad spent more than 3 years in getting us visas, he used to struggle a lot even after we went there because the expenses were so much that we couldn’t afford.
we are a family of four and we all used to live in a single room which was approximately just 3m long. In that apartment we had a single bathroom and it was used by more than 10 people. sometimes I couldn’t even study properly because there used to be lot of distractions and I dint have enough place to keep my books, so I use to keep some under the bed and sleep, my friends used to ask me that why don’t you invite us to your apartment. I was scared that I will be judged so I never invited them. I used to say that, my house takes too long for you to travel. Haha LIE! Many people assume that living abroad is cool and sophisticated, but that’s not 100% true. There happened an incident where I was said that I failed in my examinations and I won't be able study there further. My parents were heartbroken. After all, my dad worked for years to get us there, I still remember that day where my dad came crying to me and said if I don’t clear the retest exam, all of his efforts would go waste, that was the day I realized the importance of a language, If I knew how to talk, then we wouldn’t have been in that situation.
Then from 7th std, I started studying so hard, years passed by and I completed my 12th Grade passing out as a topper in English. After Seven years, I topped in that language, which I dint even know to talk properly once.
Currently, I am pursing my BTECH in Coimbatore, 2nd year specialized in information technology, also during this lockdown, as a side hustle I started making content on Instagram where I started training people on communication skills, English speaking and public speaking, because of my consistency and dedication, I have gained 43k+ organic Instagram followers.
2. What led you to take up this career path?
Some People say, It’s the unexpected that changes our life, that indeed happened with me! Pandemic started, the Nationwide lockdown came to place, that was the reason why I came to my hometown from my college to stay with my aunt because, my parents couldn’t travel back to India due to Covid. I used to be so bored and depressed, then one day my cousin called me up and said that since your command over English is good why don’t you start a YouTube channel in English. He also told me that, you can even earn a passive income just by talking Infront of the camera.
I love public speaking and talking in front of the camera so, I thought why not give this a try, that’s when I named my channel called THE EXPOUND where I started posting videos on YouTube, I used to be consistent for 6 months but still I couldn’t get the responses which I expected. so, I thought of selecting a specific niche where I can become an expert In, then I started making videos on English speaking, public speaking and communication skills, I used to
Read books, research and ask people who are experienced to gain knowledge about the same. later I thought to give up because I was continuously posting videos and still couldn’t get success in it.
But then I started a new Instagram account where I thought to repost the YouTube videos with the link of those videos in my bio, thinking that if I get more followers on Instagram, I will get more views for YouTube as well. Then reels were introduced, I started posting 30 sec reel every day and also started training people to earn money, never in my life thought that my reels would go viral because all I thought was Instagram was just for fancy music, outfits and lifestyle. But then one day, after 6 months of posting content on Instagram, my reel on communication skills crossed 100k+ views, and my other reels too, it was surreal. slowly my follower count grew and now it's more than 43000. Never in my life I thought that I will become a content creator in social media. one year back I never thought that I will be giving interview for a news! it was all unexpected.
3. What impact do you want to make in this world?
Making an impact in this world is such a great possession, few things which I want to do is that I want to make each and every woman out there independent. I want to inspire everyone so that they should live their best life without the support from anybody. Even if one person comes to me and say that ‘because of you I was able to do this, I will feel like I made an impact.
4. What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?
I presume that the idea of success differs from person to person because everyone’s journey is different. Personally, I have realized that consistency, hard work and dedication towards the process which you are doing are indeed important.
Especially these materialistic things don’t matter at all, when I started making videos, I have promised myself that I should not even spend my dad’s single penny, I still don’t use tripod, I have built a setup with chair, utensil and a pipe. Yes, pipe! Some say that you need to be smart and talented to achieve great things, I do not believe in that, when you are consistent, you tend to hard work and you develop your skills. So yeah, I am someone who believes in trying hard.
5. Do you think teaching as a profession is viewed at par with corporate jobs?
To be honest, I am not that experienced in corporate jobs because I am pursuing my Engineering, but talking about teaching, that alone is a virtuous job, during my school days my English teacher used to motivate us a lot.
6. Which is your favorite book and why?
I am not a bibliophile but I have read few books and I liked them all but specifically if I have to say then that would be THE POWER OF YOUR SUBCONCIOUS MIND because it says a lot about our subconscious mind, after reading that I completely changed the pattern of my thinking. It also says about how thinking, self believe, faith is important in one’s life. I think everyone should give that a try, it will change your way of perceiving things.
7. How does education help one do well in their career?
Well, I feel like Education is the foundation of one’s perspective towards life, and also it depends upon the education system which we have. Having good education doesn’t mean passing the exams with full marks or getting a degree because that might help you to get a job and make you earn money but not in every aspect. You need to be able to respect, grow and develop a better society.
My name is Jaya Jagdeesh, and I am 19 years old. I am pursuing my Btech, Information technology. I am also a trainer and a content creator who creates content and trains people on Communication skills, English Speaking and Public speaking. I also post reels everyday on my instagram account on the same, through which I have gained more than 40k followers.
