Web Series Review: ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ - The Love Child of Thrill and Fun

Usually, I give an intro about either something related to the powerful concept of a fictional series, or something cool related to the series, or something touching if it's a romantic story…, you know how it works by now right? If you didn't, well you can thank me later.

But I won't do any of that, not today. The reason you should go through this is simple - cause it's fucking cool. That's why I saw it, that's why you should see ‘Jujutsu Kaisen'.

Curses and Sorcerer

See, I am telling you, curses, sorcerer, good vs evil, it looks all old school. But trust me, it's one of the coolest series and anime you'll watch. So, lemme tell you how it works here. It's basically a battle of curses and sorcerers.

Curses are born from human emotions such as pain, suffering, greed and these curses usually have a body. The stronger the emotion, the more will be the curse power and intelligence. Jujutsu sorcerers are people who were born with a high level of cursed energy themselves and have an innate talent to use cursed techniques.

And these battles of sorcerers and curses go on in the series. There is a thing called ‘curse objects’ which are used to ward off curses, but are dangerous and are used and managed by sorcerers.

Season Review

The season begins with Itadori Yuuji, a high school student, who has freaking athletic skills and strength and is in a ghost club in his school. His grandfather is sick, and he visits him every day in the hospital. His grandfather tells him to focus more on his club, and that he is strong and can help everyone.

Meanwhile, we see a sorcerer near his school looking for cursed objects, and get high curse energy from Itadori. He follows Itadori, where we see Itadori's grandfather died, but the sorcerer rattles him in grief and asks about a cursed object which they found in a ghost club, and the other two members were gonna open it that night.

They both reach there, to see a big curse that the sorcerer struggles to fight, till Itaodri jumps in, and eats that cursed object to gain power against the curse. That object was a finger of the king of curses, Sukuna, who now came into Itadori 's body, but was unable to control him.

The story then begins where we see Gojo, a strong sorcerer mentoring Itadori exploring more on the power of curses and his fate due to Sukuna. It's a real roller coaster from the first episode and you get hitched to it straight away.

Characters You Will love

Itadori Yuuji - He is the main character of the series, who, to save everyone, eats a cursed object that causes the king to curse Sukuna in his body. He is a really fun character, who tries to save everyone and is really strong. His scenes when Sukuna takes over will be chilling to watch. He is voiced by Junya Enoki

Megumi Fushiguro - He is the sorcerer, who was looking for Sukuna's finger in the beginning, and fights the curses with Itadori in the beginning. He is from the Zenin clan, a clan of sorcerers, but he does not associate with them. He can use many techniques and has immeasurable strength that's untapped. He is quite cold and aloof, which makes him cool. He is voiced by Yuma Uchida.

Gojo Satoro - He is the coolest character of the series, hands down. He wears an eye and on both his eyes and is the strongest. So strong that he took on Sukuna with hands in his pocket, and Sukuna still couldn't land a hit. He is famous among the fangirls and is voiced by Yuichi Nakamura.

The Bottom Line

Jujutsu Kaisen is probably one of the coolest new generation anime. It's good to start with anime. MAPPA really did a great job with animation and CGI and stuck to its strengths this time. It's amazing because, unlike other series, heroes are incredibly strong already, while villains' strength is increasing and they are developing. You can stream ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ on Crunchyroll.
