Alex Senna - Focus on Producing Art, Not on Becoming an Artist (Artist & Painter from Brazil)

Alex Senna

Focus on producing art, not on becoming an artist, we are made of experiences in life, so making it and experience the process will make your art with more base.

1. When did you decide you wanted to be an artist?

I have always drawn in my life, my mother is an artist, and my brother has always drawn.  I took this with me my whole life. I lived an “ordinary” life until 2004 when I had my first experience with graffiti. In 2009 I quit my job and decided to bet everything on my job. I started to produce daily, taking advantage of all the opportunities that appeared.

2. Is it a financially stable career?

It's a different way of life, not easy at all as you have to produce and at the same time make money to live.

3. Who is your favorite painter/artist and why?

I'm a fan of Will Eisner, the way he tells his stories, the narratives, and of course, the drawings influenced my life a lot. Right now I'm digging Portinari, a painter from the 20´s that I identify a lot.

4. What is your inspiration for creating art?

Everyday life.

5. What piece of advice would you like to give to future aspiring artists?

Focus on producing art, not on becoming an artist, we are made of experiences in life, so making it and experience the process will make your art with more base.

6. Which is your favorite book and why?

Since I like Comics, I would say “Maus” from Art Spiegelman and “Black Hole” from Charles Burns. In classic literature, the novel “100 years of solitude” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez had a great impact on me when I was a teenager.
