Dr. Ankita Nagarani - The Future of Healthcare Is Shaping up With Technologies (Consulting Endodontist and Aesthetic Dentist from India)

Ever since I was 12 years of age, I always aspired to be a dental surgeon as I was always inquisitive about what lies within a tooth.

Tell us about your upbringing, background and journey?

I belong to a family of engineers. Since childhood, my parents have always taught me self-motivation and hard work. Ever since I was 12 years of age, I always aspired to be a dental surgeon as I was always inquisitive about what lies within a tooth.

Why did you choose to be a dentist and decide what you specifically want to do?

My mother always supported me with my dreams and ambitions and she is the one solely responsible for what I am today. I am a Masters in Conservative dentistry and Endodontics from D.Y Patil dental college and hospital, Pimpri, Pune currently attached to Aditya Birla Hospital and Apollo group of hospitals along with various private clinics in Pune. BeauDent is my upcoming first dental office that will be launched in September this year.

We salute your work during the pandemic, where did you get the inspiration to work so hard?

Since childhood, as I previously mentioned, my mother was my biggest support system. In 1st standard, I was the youngest in my entire class and couldn’t even grab a pencil with my tiny hands and it was a struggle back then but my mother never gave up and literally would hold my hand while writing. Today, I am what I am because of her hard work and I give all my credits to her.

How do you expect digital health to grow over the next 5 years?

Technology and medicine go hand in hand. The future of healthcare is shaping up with technologies such as 3-D printing, robotics or nanotechnology.

In this covid era, digital teleconsultations have been convenient for so many patients without any constraints. There also are so many online portals where patients can now get access to their medical records and interact with their physicians.

What are your concerns about Digital Health?

The challenge of interoperability and malpractice and the risk of misdiagnosis are some of the drawbacks of digital healthcare.

Can you let us know any one application of Digital Health in your country which has impressed you?

Practo is one of the online platforms that I've been impressed with. Their digitized prescriptions and appointment booking schedule system has made it convenient for the healthcare system and the patients.

What is your message for aspiring doctors and the young generation? Which is the best medical college according to you?

My message to all aspiring doctors is that one needs to be extremely dedicated and patient at the same time especially in the pandemic era as we deal with human life.

What does your typical day look like and what do you like to do besides work?

I make it a point to start my day with a workout or meditation before I actually push off to work. After a routine day, I love spending time with my fur babies and besides that, I love singing. I've been a professionally trained singer and have been into music since the age of three.
