Dr. Sep Pouresa - I Feel Privileged to Wake Up Every Day and Do What I Love Most: Dentistry and Fitness (Dentist from California)

Today, I feel blessed to end my journey in Canada with a kinesiology degree, the lieutenant governor’s medal, 3 IDFA Men's Physique medals, a dental doctorate and enrolling in a residency in California.

Tell us about your upbringing, background and journey?

I feel privileged to wake up every day and do what I love most: Dentistry and Fitness. I remember receiving my first gym membership at the local YMCA for my 16th birthday and using fitness as a coping mechanism. We all know how stressful school can get, right?

Days turned into weeks and weeks into years. Today, I feel blessed to end my journey in Canada with a kinesiology degree, the lieutenant governor’s medal, 3 IDFA Men's Physique medals, a dental doctorate and enrolling in a residency in California.

Why did you choose to be a dentist and decide what you specifically want to do?

My interest in dentistry first sparked at the age of 14 when I got the opportunity to shadow the mom of a friend and learn about her rehabilitative cases. It was a heartwarming feeling to see how she cultivated her patients’ confidence through smiles and put them out of pain. These experiences coupled with a dental missionary trip to Lima, Peru solidified even further my passion for dentistry.

We salute your work during the pandemic, where did you get the inspiration to work so hard?

There are people who want something, others who are hungry for it, and few that starve for it. There are times where you will lose motivation and that’s okay. It happens to all of us. What helps fuel our motivation to further progress is constantly reminding ourselves why we started it from the beginning.

What is your message for aspiring doctors and the young generation? Which is the best medical college according to you?

There are no best medical colleges in my opinion. You get what you put in! The more you invest in yourself, experiment and learn with a relentless work ethic, the more you will get out of your medical/dental education. Help others, be kind, and become the best version of yourself.

What does your typical day look like and what do you like to do besides work?

I like to start off my day at 4am with some fast cardio and breakfast. I try to be at the gym by 5am and then leave for work around 6:30 AM. I enjoy taking public transport since it gives me time to review notes and eat a post-workout meal. We typically break for lunch around 1 PM  where we also have literature reviews/meetings from time to time and see patients until 4:30 PM.
