“When you do something that you love with all your heart & sincerity, every moment spent doing it, is a moment spent in meditation."

Tell us about your background and journey -

My name is Prachi Bahri. I’m a lawyer by degree & also a 5th generation lawyer from my maternal side. I did my schooling at Carmel convent school, Chandigarh and pursued my law from the University institute of legal studies ( UILS), Punjab University Chandigarh.

I was a topper of my batch and my dancing talent and performances during my college years made me a rounder and for which I was also awarded to be the miss fresher and miss farewell of my batch. After finishing law, I worked in the Punjab and Haryana high court as a legal researcher for 2 years. After finishing my term, I felt that my creative side wasn’t quite fulfilled. So, I decided to follow my 2 childhood passions i.e baking and dancing.

I’ve been baking since the age of 10 & baking as a hobby for the past 6 years. My signature chocolate - strawberry trifle, gelatin-free cheesecakes and tea cakes have been a hit for years now. I believe that love is the secret ingredient in my cakes and that is exactly what I got in return through this rather “ sweet “ hobby of mine.

Being an introverted person by nature, I felt I expressed myself the best through dancing and have been pursuing this hobby since an early age. I’ve been part of Shiamak Dawar’s special potential batch in my high school days where I was auditioned and picked up amongst 400 students. I continued training through my school and college years in different dance forms like jazz, hip hop, Bollywood etc over the years.

In 2018, l started with my Instagram page @nachwithprachi where l started posting my dance videos and took the initiative of putting myself out in public for my talent to reach out to a larger audience. “ Nach “ for me defines dance and the pure joy that I feel through dancing and my page is all about spreading positivity, joy & motivation. This was a major step to come out of my comfort zone and put my talent out to be seen, recognized and also inspire others to follow their heart at the same time. Over the years many celebrities like Jassie gill, Guru Randhawa, Diljit Dosanjh, Neha Kakkar, Tony Kakkar etc. have reposted my videos and that has only encouraged me to pursue my passion even further.

Last year in 2021, amidst the pandemic I got an opportunity to be part of the first-ever creator training program by Nas daily ( Nuseir Yasin ), whose net following on social media is 46 million which was in association with a creator app MX Takatak. His academy, better known as Nas academy handpicked 25 talented Indian creators after 2 series of online interviews and auditions and I was not only picked up and trained under them for 3 months but was also featured on their page as a spotlight creator and was adjudged the runner up at the end of the course.

I’ve been specifically trained by able trainers Ahmed & Bruce from the team to do impactful storytelling in under a minute including all skills to write, shoot & edit on professional software. Through this training program, I got an opportunity to create videos where my writing, speaking skills were showcased and people got to know me as an overall personality. Facing the camera comes naturally to me from the early age of 3 and speaking/performing in front of it is what feels like home to me. Here’s the link to her Life Journey Video that she’s created under the guidance of Nas Academy.

How do you choose and prepare for a talk?

While creating motivational or speaking videos, there is a script that I pen down highlighting the message in an easy to understand, simple & relatable format. This is then followed by shooting and editing it.

There are also some videos that have been created out in spontaneity when I strongly felt the need to push out a certain message on a relevant topic or got an idea while meditating/chanting, such videos have no script and words just seem to flow with the sole intention of spreading a good message that could impact lives.

An example of this would be during the first lockdown when I created a motivational video which was titled “ 5 tips to uplift your vibrational / life state. “ This 11 min long video was shot extempore and made purely on the spiritual knowledge that I’ve gathered so far through my practice of nicherin daishonin’s Buddhism and being a follower of Paramhansa Yogananda ji and his books, particularly the “ autobiography of a yogi. “

This is the link to the video for the spiritually inclined.

When did you first decide you wanted to pursue dancing and how did you start?

So, as I said I’ve been dancing since an early age and have been training over my school and college years. With the advent of social media, I just got an opportunity to showcase my talent to a larger audience in the year 2018 when posting dance videos had just started becoming a trend. I’m a dance & motivational content creator where aim is to impact and inspire others to follow their heart while doing what I love to do. I choose to do this by creating content on social media and not physically teaching as that isn’t a passion. Performing in front of the camera is and there’s a difference between the two which is something that people are now beginning to understand.

How important is it to keep your passion/hobby alive?

I think every successful person would agree that devoting, dedicating and being consistent with your passion/ hobbies makes you feel fulfilled and complete from within. Without it, you’ll always feel that something is missing. There’s a reason for a passion inside of you, it is god’s/ universe’s gift to you that is unique for every individual. I can guarantee, if you follow it in whatever way that is possible for you, even if not as a mainstream profession but honouring and following it will not only give you immense peace and joy but will work like meditation for you as well.

Here’s the link to one of my videos, highlighting this very topic.

Is there a dish you particularly associate yourself with?

I love strawberries and chocolate cake so there’s a signature trifle that I do incorporate these two with my secret twist. This signature recipe has been an absolute hit for over a decade now and I love making this the most. After this, it’ll be my signature mango cheesecake with a mango shaped rose on the top. This one’s also a loved cake and through word of mouth, it’s gone up to Ludhiana as well for special order.

What impact do you want to make in the world?

So, pursuing my creative interests apart from my law degree has been my story and while I understand that everyone can’t leave their mainstream professions and switch to their creative pursuits. Having said that, I do feel that having a gift and not using it would be doing injustice to something that’s meant to be explored and something that’ll fulfil you.

During the pandemic and especially during the lockdowns when we have shut away from the noise and distractions of the world, we saw so many people going back to their hobbies like painting, cooking etc that they’d forgotten about. Also, with everything going virtual now, a host of opportunities have opened up in the digital field and it is here to stay for years to come ahead. Through my content, I aim to spread joy and add value by impacting others positively to follow their passion as well.

I’d like to end with a self-written quote that sums up my thoughts - “When u do something that you love with all your heart & sincerity, every moment spent doing it, is a moment spent in meditation. “ This is for people who can’t meditate, following your passion equates to that. Hoping my journey of pursuing my creative passions inspires you to follow your inner calling too.
