Manhwa Review: ‘Lady Baby’ by ‘Ju Hyeon’ – ‘In This Life, I’ll Protect Everyone I Love’

"You tried to force your hand on me" - Lippe

“Lady Baby” is one of my favourite manhwa about reincarnation. The story has a clear western setting and is basically revolving around the protagonist’s way of overcoming her struggle. Well compared to most of the Manhwas the female protagonist is not so innocent and is really scary when she starts pulling the strings.

Just when she had given up all hope, a mysterious woman grants Calliope a second chance at life after seeing Calliope crying and mourning for the stranger who passed away due to the war.

Little did she know that chance would literally start from birth. Redoing her entire life and picking from the very beginning. Now stuck as an adult in a baby’s body, Calliope must uncover the conspiracy of the nobles behind the death of her family and use her memories of the past to change the future.

But first, she must start learning how to walk and talk. She attends parties and meets up with potential allies who can be a good backing for her. She opens the “Baby Salon” to provide practical knowledge for kids of her age. She encounters a lot of trouble in the process. She also starts to reveal the plot of the nobles who killed her parents before the time skip starting from the Butler.

She also encounters a head to head fight with the priests of the church who want the “Baby Salon” because that is where the ‘Stigma’ is supposed to be appearing. She also breaks the tradition of singing high society songs to Countryside songs causing a huge uproar in the high society. She always manages to have an upper hand in all the battles and the ones ahead with her knowledge of the past.

About the Author

There is not much data on the Author Ju Hyeon except for the books she wrote. Ju Hyeon is best known for being the author of “What It Takes to be a Villainess - Specials”, “Forget About My Husband, I'd Rather Go Make Money”, “Forget My Husband, I’ll Go Make Money” (Novel), “Lady Baby”, and “What It Takes to be a Villainess”.

About the Book

The Manhua is based on a novel named “Lady Baby”, and it is being popular amongst young teen readers, especially female readers. It stood about #1058 in the annual ranking of the Anime planet. Being released in many languages has made it reach a wide range of readers and improved the insight.

Themes Involved

The main theme of this manhwa is Revenge but it doesn’t stop there, it contains a lot of mystery revealing, coming of age, and supernatural elements.

Famous Quotes

  1. “Grow up to be a bright and intelligent lady unlike your brother ~”- Harrison Alpinus
  2. “Brother’s opponent isn’t outside, it’s inside. Winning against your own self, it’s called true victory.” - Calliope Rustichel
  3. “If you truly are a grown up, then shouldn’t you have been able to easily accept your mistakes and improve your attitude.” - Calliope Rustichel

The Bottom Line

In conclusion, the overall manhwa is really beautiful and well set. The illustrations can make anyone fall in love with art. Alongside the storyline, the moulding of the characters and events are well relatable to the coming of age theme. The story may start off a little bleak but it gradually develops into a more exciting one just like how a caterpillar develops into a butterfly.

My rating for the manga is 4.9 on 5
