Plot
The plot commences from a rich family situated in South Delhi the Mehras. Kamal Mehra is the owner of the company AYKA and the patriarch. His wife Neelam Mehra who is a housewife and their daughter Ayesha is a businesswoman and married to a Mumbai-based rich man Manav Sangha.
They have a son Kabir who is the youngest amongst them and about to take over the business of his father. In Order to celebrate the 30th wedding anniversary of Kamal and Neelam, they plan to go to Turkey and Greece by cruise with their close friends.
What is likable about the movie?
After Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Dil Dhadakne does was an amazing concept produced by Zoya Akhtar. Something which I would like to appreciate about Zoya Aktar is how she depicts a story. Zoya is creative even when she shows issues in a satirical way.
She uses humor as a mechanism to depict an issue. She depicts real issues in society.
Mummy Mehra and Papa Mehra who were celebrating their wedding anniversary had problems in their married life.
For formality, they were celebrating to satisfy the norms of the society and show their frenemies that they love each other but everyone knew about their reality. That was something different as depicted in Hindi cinema and modern issues. Anil Kapoor has many years of experience yet was able to get into the skin of the character as well as Shefali Shah.
The producers of the film cast the right actors for the film. Everyone was playing their role amazingly. Not at a single point in the whole film, I felt it was boring. The problems of a dysfunctional family and how being rich they had a narrow mindset of typical values.
In the scenes where Anil Kapoor was consuming Anti- Anxiety pills which depicted the concept of mental health is still taboo in our country whether the person belongs to a rich or poor family.
It was a complete entertainment movie. Zoya also showed patriarchy in the movie and lack of freedom. There were some scenes in the film where Ayesha was forced to comply with marriage by her parents instead of being sympathetic to her problems. Kabir was being forced to take over the business. Gender bias families still have very deep-rooted roots.
There was an instance in the movie where Priyanka angrily says to her aunties “Why don’t you look for a job” and someone says “ Who will qualify us for a job?” which is portrayed in the modern world working women are still looked down upon. It showed how humans are hypocrites and selfish.
What’s not likable?
I felt the movie could have been shorter. In the middle of the movie, it felt that the movie was being pushed to exaggerate the whole story. Something which I disliked was the roles of Anushka Sharma and Farhan Akhtar. It felt like being one of the main characters who were doing cameo roles in the film. Their roles should be extended in the film.
The last scene basically the ending of the film my opinion stands neutral as it had an open
In The End, I feel that the scene should give justice by providing a clear Idea.
The plots do sound interesting but we don’t know about the problems of people which they face in their life which the movie conveys to us. Maybe the lives of rich people aren’t like the middle class but they do have their own problems.
We see having a lot of money the Mehra’s were having a narrow mindset towards life and towards their children.
They were not supportive when her daughter wanted to divorce her husband and their son too when he told them what he wanted to do in the flying field. Overall the film conveyed how to live a happy life without considering what people will say.
Every morden problem has morden solutions. We just need to understand the situation and understand people.
Conclusion
I liked the concept of the film. Especially by using humor to show the situation. I would highly recommend this film. It is available on Netflix.
My ratings for the movie: 4 on 5
