About Shiba Inu Dogs:

Shiba Inu is one of the six native breeds of Japan that are Akita (large), Kishu, Hokkaido, Kai, Shikoku (medium), and Shiba (small). These are pure breed dogs with DNA nearly similar to their Wolf ancestors.

Shiba Inu, unlike normal dog breeds, show slightly different personality traits and aren’t easy to get convinced to be cuddled. Shiba Inu is a resilient dog, acts independently from the owner, is self-reliant, loyal, and disciplined imbibed from Japanese culture.

They are one of the best pet companions when it comes to loyalty and adaptability to different climatic situations, and are friendly to children, strangers, and other dogs. They have facial muscle abilities around their eyes similar to humans, making them facially as expressive as humans.

Shiba Inu are smarter than other dog breeds and not so easy to train like normal dogs. Shiba Inu are mature, playful, and don’t seek that much attention and cuddling from owners compared to European breeds.

History of Shiba Inu:

Originally from Japan, Shiba Inu was used to hunt wild boars, birds, small animals by humans for food. Shiba Inu’s body features make them agile in movements and capable of hunting down bigger animals of their size.

Their DNA is linked directly to wolves making Shiba Inu the most ancient and well-preserved breeds. However, with European trades and cross-breeding, during world war 2, an unfortunate incident happened that made Shiba Inu nearly extinct breeds.

Europeans during World War did cross-breeding among dogs that disrupted their natural health, birth rates, and Shiba Inu suffered a rapid decrease in population leading them to the list of endangered species.

With heavy bombings of America on Japan, things got worst for Shiba Inu and most population died during the war. Seeing this, the Japanese Government took action to preserve and save Shiba Inu.

Revival of Shiba Inu:

During 1930, very few Shiba Inu with pure bloodlines were left on this planet. Japan set up a community in 1928 called Nihonken-Hozonkai (Dog Preservation Society) that searched for the remaining pure breeds of Shiba Inu.

One member of the preservation society found a male Shiba dog “Ishi” in a small village of Masuda, Japan deep in the forest who was owned by Shimoyama Nobuichi. The community convinced Nobuichi of the preservation program and Ishi was sent to Tokyo.

After traveling away from his hometown, Ishi was bred to a female dog that was also very much Shiba Inu and their offspring helped to repopulate their numbers. Today, there are more than 6 million Shiba Inu dogs in Japan whose ancestral dad and mom are believed to be Ishi and his wife.

People of Japan constructed his memorial statue in Masuda village and Ishi was honored for his most valuable contribution to preserving the Shiba breed. Today, Shiba Inu are spread in many Countries with Japan and USA having the most popularity to adopt Shiba Inu with the launch of meme coins.
