How Corruption Is An Old Disease in India?

We all are very familiar with the word corruption but why? The reason is we all face corruption once in our life.  In simple words, corruption means a form of criminal activity or dishonesty, which can be done by a group or individual. According to Joe Bidden (47th vice president of America) “corruption is just another type of tyranny”.

Nowadays people are okay with corruption because they think that this is the only way to complete their work.  People who are rich, educated, or poor all are trapped in this net known as corruption.

Some people think that corruption came with Britishers and it gets stronger after the independence. But this is not true. We can clearly see the example of corruption in Jodhaa Akbar, released in 2008 based on Jodhaa a Rajput princess and Mughal Emperor Akbar.

The various methods of Corruption

There are many forms of corruption like bribery, embezzlement, theft, fraud, graft,  extortion, blackmail, influence peddling, networking, abuse of discretion, favoritism, nepotism, and clientelism. Not only money is a form of corruption. All the above-stated words are a form of corruption.

bribery includes gifts, jewelry, and other things in exchange for personal benefits. It is also known as kickbacks or baksheesh. Embezzlement is when a person gets illegal access to someone’s funds and assets.

The graft is a political act in which government funds are used for personal activity, not for public projects. Influence peddling is the practice in which a person uses his government influence or some connection in authority to get benefits or speedy work in exchange for money.

Networking is done by a person who needs a job. It can be done when a person has a good connection with the interviewer, CEO, or higher authority of the company. Abuse of discretion is when a person uses his powers and decision-making facilities in the wrong way.

Favoritism, nepotism, and clientelism include favoring and supporting one on behalf of their relations instead of their ability.

On the basis of bribery, embezzlement, theft, fraud, graft, extortion, blackmail, influence peddling, networking, abuse of discretion, favoritism, nepotism, and clientelism we can divide corruption broadly into 3 types. Political corruption, administrative corruption, and professional corruption.

Bribery, graft influence peddling, networking, favoritism, and nepotism come under political corruption. Bribery, influence peddling, networking, abuse of discretion, and clientelism come under administrative corruption. Bribery, embezzlement, influence peddling, networking, abuse of discretion, and favoritism comes under the professional corruption

Ways to stop corruption

The government of India knows how much corruption is dangerous. For fighting from this. There is an independent broad-based anti-corruption commission aka IBAC. if you are a victim of corruption you can report your case on ibac.vic.gov.au.

To stop corruption firstly we need strict action against those who are corrupted. Their punishment should be a lesson for all corrupted persons. Many people don’t report corruption because they think that they have to waste time in court cases. People have to think that corruption works like a chain, you have to break the chain.

As we all know, Media plays a vital role in our society. media is the mirror of society. The media should have more concerned about this. The media should have honest regarding corruption cases.

There are watchdog agencies like the central vigilance commission (CVC). CVC  is a government body that addresses corruption in government.  Agencies like this help to stop corruption. These agencies will work properly if the officers of this agency will work honestly.

Education is the major factor in the country. Education helps people to increase their thinking capability. Educated people know their rights and how to react if someone breaches their rights. Kerala has the highest literacy rate and it is the least corrupted state in India.
