I created my first reel on Instagram shortly after the reels platform launched back at the end of 2020. It was a comedy/satire video about online school. I figured, so many people already enjoy these videos on TikTok, why not expand to other platforms such as Instagram to spread the entertainment even further.
1. 1. Tell us about
your background and journey.
My name is Liam Miller! I’m 19
years old, the oldest sibling out of my two brothers and one sister, and I
currently live in Minneapolis Minnesota. I was originally born in North Dakota,
but have kind of grown up all over. I’ve lived in North Dakota, Texas,
Colorado, Tennessee, and now Minnesota. I love making content for Instagram and
TikTok, but besides that, I’ve always had a deep passion for singing, music,
and anything technology related.
1. 2. How and where did
you find inspiration to churn out content for your Instagram?
I started making videos on TikTok, which also lead to creating content on Instagram, in March 2020. I began making videos out of sheer boredom when covid and quarantine started. It all started as something to keep me busy/for fun and to my surprise, I quickly started to grow, and it turned into something more.
3. How did you create your 1st reel on Instagram? Tell us more about its journey.
I created my first reel on Instagram shortly after the reels platform launched back at the end of 2020. It was a comedy/satire video about online school. I figured, so many people already enjoy these videos on TikTok, why not expand to other platforms such as Instagram to spread the entertainment even further.
4. Who is your favorite creator and why?
I may be a little bit biased when it comes to this question, but I have two favorite creators, @janelthebear and @sewphy. I’ve been entertained by both of their accounts for a long time and ended up becoming best friends with the two of them over a year after I started watching their content. Janelle makes satire/comedy content as well and is known for her funny facial expressions.
I also make a lot of videos with weird faces, and this is what we initially bonded over. Sophie Morelli, my other favorite creator, makes music and comedy videos. She has the most insane vocal register I’ve ever heard and is known for the crazy whistle notes she can do. I remember watching her videos for the first time and just being in awe over how talented she was.
5. What, according to you, are the mistakes that people often make while creating content on Instagram that gets them little or no traction?
I think the number one mistake that people make when creating content is simply being afraid to put themselves out there. I believe this because it’s one of the fears I had when I first began making content as well. You get so worried about what everyone else is going to think or say about it, when in reality, who cares? If you’re having fun and making someone else’s day better, then everyone else’s opinion doesn’t matter.
6. What impact has this made in your life? Any experience that you would like to share?
I think social media as a whole has made a massive impact on my life. I’ve been doing it for about two and a half years at this point and it’s taken me places that I never even believed I could go. I’ve met so many amazing people and connected with so many friends that I don’t know what I would do without now. It’s allowed me to believe in myself more, gave me a greater sense of purpose, and so much more. It would take me forever to name everything on the list.
7. What do you most enjoy about this?
The thing I enjoy most about what I do is getting to entertain people/make them laugh. No matter how awful of a day someone may be having, or what is going on in life, knowing I am able to make people have a better day, even if it’s one person, makes me feel so fulfilled. I also just love making stupid videos, ranting, etc. It’s very therapeutic haha.
8. Was there any setback that you later realized was a stepping stone in your journey?
Definitely, Covid-19, being in lockdown initially, and everything shutting down. When I first began making videos, my mental health was probably the lowest it had ever been. I had been going through an awful breakup, and when covid hit, all the feelings of loneliness/emptiness were only amplified. School was canceled, and life as I knew it felt as if it came to a screeching halt for me as well as everyone around me.
I certainly didn’t enjoy this feeling/the tragedy of the pandemic happening around me, but I guess in a way it allowed me to grow in ways I might have never been able to if it wasn’t for all the extra time alone I was presented. I seriously don’t think I would have started making content if it wasn’t for my breakup/covid, as a lot of my content early on was based on covid and relationships.
9. What are your future plans for yourself?
My future plans in general are to keep working on school and obtain my bachelor’s degree, keep making videos, and start releasing music. I love making videos, but I would say equally if not more, I love making music. Coming up, I’m going to London next month to visit my friends, attend a few things and I cannot wait to see some other parts of the world. Travelling is always in my plans.
10. Your favorite book/show and why?
My favorite book is Call Me by Your Name. I don’t know why but there’s just something about romance novels that I just can’t get enough of, I’m a sucker for it. My favorite show is definitely Euphoria. Besides the plot and fantastic characters, the cinematography of the show continues to amaze me. Everything aesthetically is so well thought out.
