His latest film, "Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani" unquestionably lives up to the Dharma Productions label.

It revolves around a love story between Rocky, a wealthy and quintessential West Delhi Punjabi 'munda,' and Rani, an independent young lady hailing from Bengal.

However, this sweet love story takes a turn when they realize that their families are poles apart. While Rocky comes from a Punjabi family strictly guided by orthodox customs, Rani belongs to a highly modest family.

Rocky, cherished son and heir of "Dhanalaxmi Sweets," a brand established and nurtured by his grandmother, and continued by his father, witnesses his mother and sister, being females, not even allowed to express themselves freely.

On the other hand, Rani is the only daughter of a professionally trained Kathak Dancer a father and an English professor at Delhi University for a mother.

Challenging Stereotypes

1. Loving a Married Individual

The love story of Rocky and Rani itself commences with the tale of long-lost sweethearts Kanwal (Rocky's Grandfather) and Jamini (Rani's Grandmother), who fell in love in just 7 days.

However, since both of them were already married, they decided to drift apart from each other's lives. Yet, their love never waned.

But isn't falling in love with another person while being married considered a sin?

This is a notion that the movie beautifully justifies.

2. Male Dancers

Another significant stereotype addressed by the film pertains to male classical dancers.

Rani's father, an exceptional Kathak dancer, faces mockery instead of receiving acknowledgement for his talent and passion.

He is derided with various names, becoming a source of laughter for people. The movie highlights this issue while also glorifying the beauty of male classical dancers.

3. Male Chauvinism

Male dominance to the extent of controlling women is a common yet overlooked practice.

Rocky's mother and sister are treated as doormats who eventually learn to stand up for themselves.

The movie powerfully yet elegantly challenges many such customs, delivering its message comically and entertainingly. Therefore, "Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani" is undoubtedly a MUST-WATCH!
