Over half a decade we have seen the drastic change in the entertainment industry, the shift from theatres to ott platforms. OTT stands for over the top which includes amazon, Netflix, Disney+hotstar and many more. People are changing their preferences from going to theatres to watching the movies at their homes via ott platforms.

The revolution was happening at a normal pace but the covid rapidly grew the demand for ott content rather than theatres. Now it is more convenient for the public to just be at their homes and watch whatever they wish to and also what they could watch in the theatre. 

Besides being convenient, ott is much cheaper than going out and watching at the theatre, the cost incurred by watching a single movie is somewhat near to a year’s subscription of an ott platform. OTT provides every variety of content, you can watch whatever you wish to. 

It is believed that the theatres are going in losses after the explosion of ott and after covid many theatres have shut down also. The reach of ott is global which adds on to the advantage of ott platforms. It happens many times that the movies or shows are not released worldwide and are specific to the home country or some countries, but that is not the case with ott. It is available to the whole world, be it any country which has access to that particular ott platform. 

We can take The most popular case of India and Pakistan where the governments of both the countries have prohibited the release of each other's films in their countries. 

So here comes the ott which allows people from India and Pakistan to watch each other's content via ott platforms such as Netflix, amazon prime etc. the people who do not have access to theatres can also get to see the content via ott platforms, for example people from backwards areas of society.

It is a fact that the amount a family spends on watching a movie in a theatre one time is equivalent to them buying a subscription of an ott platform for a year.

The pandemic made the revolution more prominent and made OTT, the future of the entertainment industry. How many movie actors are also acting in web series shifting from their films because they know it will gain them more popularity and fame.
