Debojyoti Sarkar - Embrace the Infinite Possibilities of Design, and Become the Best Version of Yourself Daily (Brand Enthusiast / Design Leader /Visualizer)

I learn every day, especially from my design mates. Collaborating and discussing work during breaks enhance thoughts and offer newer perspectives.

1. Tell us about your background.

I was actually a civil engineering student and always had a passion for art and design. One fine day I was actually applying for an engineering firm and suddenly a friend of mine called me up and said that there was a walk-in interview going on in an ad agency and that's how it all started, got a chance to work there as a trainee and after 6 months of training period I managed to get a ground and worked there for 2 years and 8 months.

2.  As a Design Leader, what does a typical day look like for you? How do you balance creative tasks, team management, and strategic planning in your role?

Talking about a Day at work, It starts with a coffee with less sugar and some good music because when you need to balance people and ideas simultaneously you always have to be happy and fresh. The first halves are generally with work allocations for the day followed by meetings of various sorts where its all about putting some words behind a 'why' of a thought.

The 'D' of design starts from the second half filled with ideations, arguments over pop colors and muted ones and what will probably work and what will become learning. The 'ESI' part is more of working on research and keeping an eye on what's happening worldwide. Then comes the 'GN' i.e. a good night to the outer world and taking that time out for myself and basic practices.

3.  Could you share a project or campaign that you've worked on that you are particularly proud of, and what were the key challenges you faced during its execution?

There is a series in hoichoi named 'Feludar Goyendagiri' where I was allowed to work on the Character Posters. Being a Bengali Feluda works as an emotion and thus had the idea of making the entire layout in the form Charminar Cigarette Box which is typically associated with Feluda. So this project amongst the many is something I would like to highlight as it has nostalgia mixed with art and thought.

4. What piece of advice would you like to give to aspiring designers/ design managers?

Learn every day, That is the key to sharpening yourself. Learn from everything and everyone around you. Design is something that has infinite possibilities for portraying thoughts, jumping into the infinite pool, and trying to become the best version of yourself every day. To the aspiring Design Leader become a good listener, the more you listen and collaborate the more you get newer perspectives and reroute them to a finer path.

5.  What has been your biggest learning from your job?

I learn every day and thus I won't be able to grade them but yes something I love learning is sitting with my fellow design mates and learning the way they look into things. I remember some days back when and two of my mates used to go for a tea break in between work, we used to discuss each other's work and then we used to get back to our seats with much-enhanced thought and a newer perspective on the design.

6.  Looking ahead, what excites you about the future of graphic design, and how do you envision your role evolving to meet these challenges and opportunities?

To be very honest if you want to communicate your product or service to the world you need to have design in it and that is what excites me the most. In the coming days, we will have more such newer trends in design as I mentioned earlier it's an infinite pool and we will get to see or experience wonders in design thinking and innovation.
