Belaro: Called As The Next Best Thing Since Ariana Grande (Singer, Songwriter, Los Angeles)

Belaro Interview

Belaro

"I’ve always been a huge fan of Ariana’s, so to be placed anywhere near her was wild to me. "

Q. You burst onto the scene in 2019 with "FGIRL" and quickly became a Spotify-favorite. Can you walk us through the moment you knew music would be your path?

I grew up in a musical family, which sparked my love for music from a very young age. I vividly remember being five years old, singing along to Destiny’s Child in the backseat of my parents' car—and I guess I never really stopped.

By the time I was 15, I had started working in studio sessions and knew without a doubt that this was what I wanted to do.

Q. You've been described as the “next best thing since Ariana” after Perez Hilton spotlighted “Grateful.” How did that acclaim influence your confidence and creative direction?

I’ve always been a huge fan of Ariana’s, so to be placed anywhere near her was wild to me. Over time, I started developing a more definitive sound as an artist, especially as I became more involved in the writing process.

Even though I feel like I’ve evolved a lot from that early sound, it still marked a major milestone in my career. As an independent artist, it’s easy to get stuck in your own head, so getting that stamp of approval from someone as iconic as
Perez Hilton definitely gave me a boost of validation—and was a reminder to continue.

Q. Your 2025 single “Never Win” is bold, emotionally charged, and sonically striking. What was the inspiration behind the track, and how did the amazing team you worked with help bring that vision to life?

The message behind the song came pretty organically. Being an independent artist—especially a young woman in the music industry—it’s easy to lose yourself.

When I first started, I was super young and impressionable with a big dream. A lot of people tried to speak for me or mold me into what they thought I should be. This song was my way of reclaiming that power.

I still face those same pressures now and then—it comes with the territory—but I’ve learned how to navigate them, and I know who I am.

We actually wrote it two years ago. I had the perfect team who helped me shape my vision into a reality. They gave me the space to fully express myself. At the time, I was in a place where I needed to create freely and figure out what I really wanted for myself and my career.

We re-produced it more recently to reflect where I’m at now, both stylistically and sonically.

Q. Your 2024 release “Proceed With Caution” has a confident, genre-blending edge. What was that creative process like for you—from the writing phase to the final production—and how did you grow through it as an artist?

I’m all about blending genres and mixing different sounds. I don’t like to think in boxes — I just go with whatever feels right for each record and what I vibe with.

The songwriting and production you hear on the final track happened in just one afternoon. The second it came together, I knew it had to be the next release — and it ended up being my quickest turnaround yet.

We did the final vocals another day, then jumped right into the shoot.

It’s always cool to see how each song finds its own crowd, and with this one, we connected with a bunch of new, beautiful faces.

Q. If you had the chance to headline a major music festival someday, what kind of stage or setting would feel like a dream come true—and what would that moment represent for you as an artist?

Honestly, my dream festival to headline would have to be Coachella. It’s in a place I went to a lot growing up and have so many great memories. Plus, I’m a California girl through and through, so it feels like home.

The vibes at Coachella are just fire. I recently saw Charlie XCX perform there, and she tore up the stage with just her and a mic. That minimal setup made her set feel so intimate and real. I’d love to do something like that—where the songs just speak for themselves.

Q. Of all your recent releases, which song feels the most ‘you’ right now? What’s the emotion or story behind it that continues to stay with you?

I would say never win for the message but also one of my favorite releases is my song “Cheers” on my “This is gonna get messy” release. I feel it’s one of my most underrated songs, but I still genuinely resonate with it.
