"I've always been deeply emotional and opinionated, and social media gave me a place to say things out loud."

Q. Before becoming “The Pink Perspective,” who were you beyond social media?

Before The Pink Perspective, I was a woman in her 20s trying to navigate the world around me. I've worked as a court reporter for a decade, observing people from all different walks of life. I've always been deeply emotional and opinionated, and social media gave me a place to say things out loud.

Q. Has creating content changed the way you see yourself or the world around you?

Yes 100%. So many of the people that I thought would support me haven't, and so many of the people that I thought would hate my content are my biggest supporters. It's taught me to not judge anyone before truly knowing them, and also my hate comments further show just how much feminism and women's rights STILL trigger so many people, lots more than I even realized.

Q. Your content feels very relatable and expressive — how do you stay authentic in a space that often feels performative?

I keep genuine people around me, some who care about my content and some who don't (and that's ok!) I grew up religious, and I've always had people around me with different opinions...I want to keep it that way. Even though it can be hard, there's so much beauty in connecting with people who are different from us and seeing a different perspective.

Q. What made you connect feminism with pop culture instead of discussing it traditionally?

At first, my content was strictly just about feminism, but I started implementing pop culture as well because I want feminism to be just as normal to talk about as reality TV. Pop culture is also such a great way to get people to understand feminist perspectives, as it's people who are very well known, so people can relate more.

Q. Have you ever faced backlash for speaking openly online, and how do you deal with it?

Yup, every day. I just tell myself that whether or not I'm on social media, people are gonna feel this way. If people are being hateful, my social media didn't suddenly make them that way, and at the end of the day, I truly believe my social media has a net positive effect.
