Introduction

The 92nd Academy Awards held on 10th February, Sunday. This award celebrates achievements in television and films throughout the last year.
The magnificent event was held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles which has hosted the event since 2002.

Last year, the Oscars went without a host for the first time in the last thirty years. This year award ceremony followed a similar pattern with some biggest names of the Hollywood Jane Fonda, Zazie Beetz, TimothĂ©e Chalamet, Olivia Colman, PenĂ©lope Cruz, Beanie Feldstein, Tom Hanks, Salma Hayek, Mindy Kaling, Regina King, Shia LaBeouf, Brie Larson, Spike Lee, Rami Malek, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sandra Oh, Natalie Portman, Keanu Reeves, and Rebel Wilson. This particular year attendees were requested to dress suitably but, there was no specific dress code as such.

What was in the goodie bags at the Oscars 2020?

Yes, this year’s nominees received goodies as part of the scheme developed by the marketing company. It included a range of bath products with 24 carat gold leaf and amethysts from Hotsy Totsy Haus; a 12-day cruise to Antarctica; a brainwave sensing meditation headband by Muse; a year’s membership with Drawing Down the Moon Matchmaking; and vouchers for nearly £20,000 worth of cosmetic treatments with Manhattan doctor Konstantin Vasyukevich. Diversity remains steady and inconsistent

Oscars has got #sowhite hashtag which somewhat represents that this year Oscars were not given to blacks. In 2019 three to four categories were given to color in a very rare occurrence but this year only one.

Also, in 2019, there was a record number of black winners. King and Ali, as well as Ruth Carter (Costume Design), Hannah Beachler (Production Design), Peter Ramsey (Animated Feature), Spike Lee (Adapted Screenplay), and Kevin Willmott (Adapted Screenplay), made last year’s Academy Awards a historic one for black talent. Additionally, history was made by Carter (first black person to win the Oscar for Costume Design for “Black Panther”); Beachler (first black designer to receive not only a Best Production Design nomination but also a win, for “Black Panther”); and Ramsey (first black director to be nominated in, and win the Animated Feature category for “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” which he co-directed with Bob Persichetti and Rodney Rothman).

Highlights of Oscars 2020

  • “Parasite” dominates winning best picture and best international feature as Bong Joon ho wins best director and Bong and Han Jin won wins best original screenplay.
  • Renee Zellweger wins the best actress for ‘Judy’ Joaquin Phoenix wins best actor for ‘Joker’
  • Brad Pitt wins the best supporting actor for once upon a time in Hollywood
  • Many people are disappointed with the pattern this year, a before there was no host.
  • The number of nominees has increased this year
  • The saddest part is there was no female director nominee
