The
confusion among graduates about what to do next in their career or perhaps their
life is a question that brings stress and anxiety. It also matters, as
decisions taken at this point of time in life will have a longer impact than
before. Hence, the common question a pharmacy graduate faces, whether to go for
an MBA or M.pharm!
.
The answer
to this question largely depends on the person as to what kind of job profile
he wants to see himself in five or ten years down the line. A small PMID
analysis can help you to take an informed decision.
Profile:
There are
various profiles in an MBA such as Finance, Marketing, HR, Business
development, Consultancy, Health care management. Each field has different
working profiles in various sectors which is very huge.
As, the
health care industry is booming right now due to the epidemic, it would be wise
to choose health care management as there you will be managing hospitals and
other companies related to medicines.
Marketing
also absorbs many graduates as there is always a need for management in
pharmaceutical companies as they work on a larger scale.
In the last
decade, there has been a huge demand for people who have a management degree
and are relate to healthcare background.
In the
terms of growth, MBA is again a very good option as the growth will be based on
your skills and talents.On the
other side, M.pharm specialization includes fields such as pharmaceutics,
pharmacology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Drug Regulatory Affairs and many more
subjects.
This will
totally depend on your interest of subjects which you studied in your
undergraduate curriculum. It is beneficial also when you want to go for research
ahead such as to do PhD. The growth
here will be slow if you turn towards industry, but it will be stable and if it
is your niche then you will definitely enjoy it a lot.
Money:
Money is the second important factor in
deciding what to pursue in your life.
MBA will
definitely provide you with more money than any other degree, but that should
not be the reason to pursue it. On the downside, you will have to compete with
people coming from different fields which will increase the level of
competition slightly so, be prepared for that.
Always keep
in mind that you should pursue your MBA from a top college or university so
that you can stay ahead in the competition and it will open a different arena
of possibility for you.
M.pharm
will also provide you with money, but lesser than an MBA but definitely with
more stability and security as you will be working in your own niche with
people who are from your field.
Interest:
This is a
very misunderstood term of all the time. It is mostly understood as passion
which is very different;
“Interest
in something combined with hard work leads to passion”
Not the
other way around. You can have passion in more than one thing but your hard
work, knowledge and perseverance will convert that interest into passion.
If you have
interest in various subjects of pharmacy such as pharmacology or medicinal chemistry
but you get drained while leaning all the structures and drugs. Then you can
opt out of pharmacy by choosing MBA. If you have
interest in various domains of an MBA such as marketing or HR then you can go
for MBA.
But if you
get interested while reading various developments in the field of science and
drugs or you want to change the face of the medicine by developing some drug
and want to publish your articles. Then you can blindly go for M.pharm.
You can
also find out your interests by doing various internships in your college time,
do not be bothered by the kind of work or whether it is paid or unpaid. You
should just choose it and start and then realize it yourself.
If your
college is finished then you can take a job and work somewhere to gain knowledge
about your industry and also to enhance your profile.
Degree to Which You Belong:
Each and every individual has his own degree
of doing work. Some people
can work day in and out as they love to work this much and so they are promoted
faster and more bread to eat but some people just work enough to gain financial
freedom and are happy with other things in their life.
Both of the
fields will have their different stress from time to time and you can analyse
these stressors before hand by analyzing what it is that you want from your
life.
MBA will be
surely put a little pressure than your own degree as it will be about managing
different people with different opinions about a common thing and leading them
on a project by maximizing their potential.
However,
with M.pharm you can go to more core field jobs which will be focused on
technicalities more than other things. An honest PMID analysis can take you far
in your career.
