Student Leader Interview - Anmol Agarwal from College of Vocational Studies

1. Tell us more about your role and responsibilities at your college?

I’m the Executive Coordinator at the Commerce Society of College of vocational studies. Being an executive coordinator is full of responsibilities. I perform various administrative duties at the executive level, Moreover My roles are to act as an intermediary between the executives, clients and the other employee and ensure healthy and functional flow of communication between them. Also, I’m in the Executive Board, so I definitely need to be disciplined in order to set example for the others.

2. How can we encourage more young students such as yourself to take up leadership role?

It’s a great opportunity to work as an Executive. We learn many things from the society. College Society help us to improve and develop our skills and abilities.

Leadership involves taking initiative, responsibility, take important decision, and such other activities. In order to be great leader, one shall set a clear vision for the organization, motivates employees, guides employees through the work process and builds morale. I would love to encourage students to join societies and take up such leadership roles by making them aware of how positively leadership helps to build up a strong personality. Also, the experience which they get is so helpful and fun.

3. What have been your biggest challenges and learning from what you do?

I believe that every day becomes a challenge if you decide to take it up. It’s usually a little challenging in the start to take up any leadership position but due to cooperative and supportive peers those challenges also start become easy for me. Joining a college society was my change to learn new skills, learn more about the business world and get exposure as well. It also helped me to gain practical experience, such as learning how to organize event, seminar, and other similar activities. It also provides soft skills needed in the workplace and leadership position.

4. What are your career goals and how is what you are doing is going to help you with that?

My goal is to pursue CFA and start my own investing firm. The Commerce Society helps us to understand how a business in a real-world works, this help us to get familiarize with work environment. Moreover, being an Executive Coordinator, I have to work with everyone in the society, so it will help me to build my social as well as professional network and moreover, I get to learn little bit of everything. Also, leadership is a quality which is required in every sector. The exposure I get provide me various opportunity to try and do different things and I’m sure it’s going to be helpful at some point in my life.

5. What is your message to encourage students to do internship and attend conference?

I would highly recommend students to do internship and attend conferences, this not only give you practical knowledge but also help you gain experiences and increase marketability.it helps students build their professional network. Through internship and conferences students learn how a professional workplace operates. And one of the major reasons I think is that It builds your resume and gives an edge to you over the students who have not attended such workshops.
