ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) is
the terrorist organization found by a Jordanian by the name of Salafi jihadist
Abu Musab al-Zarqawi the ultimate objective of this infamous man was to open a
sectarian war so that the Sunni Muslims can be mobilized by assassinations
carried out by Shia Muslims.
How Did ISIS Start?
He was the forming part of Osama bin
laden's brigade and after the invasion of US in Iraq their main aim shifted to
removing foreign countries from their soil.
In 2003-04 they became a full-fledged
terrorist organization and in 2006 Salafi was killed in an airstrike ordered by
the US military, this made tensions grow deeper and as fate would have it, this
act formed the ISIS that we know today famous for their inhumane torturous
style.
How Did They Increase
Their Foothold in Iraq and Syria?
This group then started to push itself
beyond Iraq and started to increase footholds in Syria, a country that was
already being punished by its government famously known as the Syrian Regime.
The group started to push its limits and
began strategically taking control of Syria, they started to rebel against the
Syrian forces and started gaining followers and supporters rapidly.
Where Did They Start
Gaining Control?
This was the time when they took the name
ISIS in 2013, but then again in 2014 they started calling themselves the ‘IS’ (Islamic
state) because their ambitions were beyond Syria and Iraq.
In the same year they took control of
Fallujah, Mosul, and Tikrit in Iraq, which are important cities in Iraq and
declared a caliphate, which is the political and religious territory ruled by a
caliph, people there had to follow the religious beliefs of IS.
How Was Life Under
ISIS?
After the declaration of caliphate each
person needed to act as ISIS thought was the god way to live life, many people
started fleeing the cities and villages but were killed in the name of a
caliphate and also to set an example, the horrific scenes of bodies hanging on
the crossovers were normal sights for people.
How Is ISIS So
Successful?
ISIS, however, acted as an organization
rather than a group of hooligans, ISIS recruits new members from time to time
and trains them for attacks that they will be used in, most boys enter the
organization when they are 12 to 14 years in age and then start climbing up the
ranks.
Just like an army they divide these boys
in a battalion which commanded by a more experienced commander, the battalion
also contains people from various places and people of various ethnicities, the
group contains a translator but the non-local guys need to learn one common
language.
People are scared of the fact that they
would be killed mercilessly by the ISIS if they did something wrong, moreover,
their torturous methods are enough to bring a community to its feet.
How Is USA Helping?
Although the air strike in terrorist
ridden areas is a common feat, most terrorists are killed in a confrontation
with the army-backed by the USA. The terrorists are made to learn to make
tunnels that help them escape from any war struck location when their leader
orders them to fall back. This brings us to an important question.
How Have the Lives of
People in Iraq and Syria Affected?
Five months after American-backed forces
ousted the Islamic State from its last shard of territory in Syria, the
terrorist group is gathering new strength, conducting guerrilla attacks across
Iraq and Syria, retooling its financial networks and targeting recruits at an
allied-run tent camp.
As per today, ISIS has still not been
defeated in Iraq, ISIS once used to control the lives of 12 million people and
controlled the area approx to that of Britain.
Although most of the troops of US forces
have been removed from the area, many still fear that ISIS may again take
control of the area and will improve their mercenary standards, US-backed rebel
groups still loom in large in the area and are fighting every day for the
dominance and enforcing their methods of religion.
What Does This Mean
for the People of Syria and Iraq?
As the studies show ISIS have 400 million
USD in disposable and still has many terrorists looming in other countries, the
people are in dire need of freedom and independence to lead their own life but
in this dog eat dog turf common man is the one who dies every time, in this
situation we can just pray.
