I Always Find My Inspiration in the Chaos I Am Around - Shweta Singh

YouTube and vlogging becomes a sustainable career after establishment which takes patience, energy, guts, a few nervous breakdowns and a lot of time.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I actually belong to a middle class just like 87% artist in our industry and by default an engineering graduate (now I guess engineering actually helps us to gather courage to follow passion by leaving our stable job).

So I started writing in 11th standard, because of a show I used to listen on 92.7 FM hosted by RJ Rahul Makin, in his show he used to recite classic poetries by renowned artists which in first place inspired me to write, and it became a hobby for me.

I started enjoying it, finding my peace in it, but I never knew it is going to be my career. After getting placement and passing my last semester, one of my friend took me to an open mic and that's how it all started.

On October 29, 2017 I performed for the first time in an open mic organised by nojoto, and that poem went viral after two months, I was getting offers for shows from different cities, I started touring and that's when I know this is what I want to do for the rest of my life .

2. When did you first decide that you wanted to create content and how did you start?

I never wanted to create content in the first place, what I wanted to do is to get a stable marketing job in corporate sector and earn monthly salary and also doing open mics on Saturdays and Sundays, it's was the first plan, but then when my poem went viral everything changed.

I always knew that I wanted to work in entertainment industry but I don't know how would it happen, actually I even tried to work in a marketing company, but I left it within three weeks because I felt suffocated then I started applying for digital platforms, luckily TVF liked me I got selected as script writer and started working with them later in 2018 .

Now I am working as freelance script writer for YouTube channels and brands like Girlyapa, Alright, RVCJ etc.

3. Is vlogging and YouTube content creation a financially sustainable career?

If you are beginner without patience I would not recommend this career to you, YouTube and vlogging becomes a sustainable career after establishment which takes patience, energy, guts, a few nervous breakdowns and a lot of time.

4. Who is your favourite creator and why?

I always loved AIB and TVFs old contact, I still watch it sometimes to understand the psychology of writer that how they wrote it. They both were classics at their time, I remember when TVF raodies team visited our college NSIT, I was in going crazy that finally I am going to see Pitchers creators.

Now I appreciate others but I really don't love it goes crazy about them .

5. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

Nature, incidents I think I always find my inspiration in the chaos I am around. Like if I having a conversation with my sister and suddenly she said something interesting, I don't wait to change it into a dialogue in my script .

6. What does your typical day look like?

I am a night owl, I mostly work at night , my brain works faster at that time, so I get up late in the morning following by scolding and shouting from my mom, then having breakfast at time lunch followed by playing with my sisters then a reading hour in the evening (recently I finished stories by Tagore) some movie watching.

I also try to write a piece daily about any topic and then night happens I go on a walk, talk to myself, and then starts my binge watch.

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

I don't have any favourite but I would love so many Books from different genres by different writers pride and prejudice, 1984, animal farm, Raavi paar, naked human, hum na marab, Suraj ka saatva ghoda, thanda gosht this list never ending.

8. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring creators?

Well, your parents might say that it is not a sustainable career and take a stable job , do it side by side , but let me tell if you believe in something you have to give it your 100%, it doesn't work as side by side thing, it requires energy and to convince world about something you believe in, you first have to convince yourself. So it is aar ya paar situation, if you're doing, do it with your entire heart or don't do it at all.
