Anaitha Nair

Oh there are no rules to be honest ! Everyone has such a different journey based on a multitude of factors . My only advice is “Do whatever acting work comes your way, no work is too small as long as you are interested in it"

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I’ve always been into things that are creative - started with emceeing ,did a lot of theatre in Bangalore through school and college , went on to win a voice hunt with SS music and formed India’s first Tamil pop band called S5. Released an album with Sony-BMG. Moved to umbai post that to act , 6 years 10 movies and several ad films later got moved to Hongkong where I’m now a hairdresser ! Loving every bit of what I do

2. Did you ever think or dream of being an actor?

Being on stage has always been a love . Whether it was public speaking, dancing , singing ! Pretty much anything on stage . When I started doing theatre acting gave me an opportunity to encompass all of it . So no, it certainly wasn’t a childhood dream , it’s was more like the most natural progression of what I would end up doing on stage. Movies however was an impulsive ”let’s move to Mumbai and see what happens decision “

3. How can one approach their career and have the confidence and belief to become an actor?

Oh there are no rules to be honest ! Everyone has such a different journey based on a multitude of factors . My only advice is “Do whatever acting work comes your way, no work is too small as long as you are interested in it"

4. If not this, what would you be doing?

Hairdressing which is what I’m doing now !

5. For a compete outsider with inroads, what advice would you like to give?

Start where you are at ! Find a local acting scene, see where you stand in terms of talent and skill. If you know in your gut you have it go for it , if not don’t waste your time dreaming of becoming the next big thing. Today there are so many opportunities to act with Netflix, Amazon, web series ... it’s not just film work. But be honest with yourself , with where you stand talent wise , because if your not at par, it’s going to be hard !

6. What is your mantra of success?

Love what you do and do what you love

7. Which is your favorite book and why?

Too many favourites. However a recent favourite would be "born a crime" by Trevor Noah ! What an inspiring story and what a woman his mother is !
