UAE - Israel: Historical Deal

The UAE -Israel agreement to normalize their ties, that took place is known as Abraham accord. This agreement was brokered by USA president Donald Trump. This agreement has made UAE third country, after Egypt and Jordan, to have diplomatic deal with Israel and recognized it as country.

The credit to initiate this peace agreement is given to UAE prince Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahya. This clearly shows that UAE is not trying to downplay but is formally accepting in front of all Arab nation that they are normalizing their ties with Israel.

What Is the Abraham Accord?

The Unites Arab emirate and Israel have reached an agreement to normalize their relationships, with Israel agreeing to suspend its controversial plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.

Also, to provide opportunity for the Israelis and the Palestinians to renew negotiations to end their conflict. The conflict was started in 1948 when Israel was declared as a new independent state.

The bilateral agreement also covers subjects like, tourism, direct flights, security, telecommunications, technology, energy, healthcare, culture, investmentthe environment, the establishment of each other’s embassies, and other field of profit.

What’s in for Both the Countries?

This deal initiated by UAE will encourage other Arab nations to sign a peace deal with Israel. There are countries which are underplaying their relationship with Israel.

Considering the fact that UAE has strong influence on Arab nation and it does not share any border with Israel still initiated the peace agreement and recognized the Jewish state as nation is a bold move.

For the UAE, it is harder to say precisely what will be the on the spot benefits, though its relations with Washington will be deepened and the deal with Israel may bring in significant economic, security and scientific benefits.

The UAE and Israel will also unite with the US to launch a "Strategic Agenda for the Middle East", with the three leaders observing that they share a similar outlook regarding the risks, threats and opportunities in the domain, as well as a shared commitment in promoting stability.

Reaction of Other Nations

However, Israel has promised of “suspending” the annexation plan of parts of West Bank, the Palestinian leadership rejected the Abraham accord and recalled its ambassadorship from Abu Dhabi.

From the perspective of the Palestinians and their supporters, this agreement reflects bad faith and stab in the back as the UAE and Israel had already been normalizing ties even before the Abraham Accord.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem mentioned that the agreement does absolutely not serve the Palestinian problem; it rather entertains the Zionist narrative. This agreement motivates to continue denial of basic rights and crime against Palestinian people

The Palestinian Liberation Organization also took up the social media platform to criticize the agreement and also express their anger on UAE, that they believe has harmed the Palestinian cause.

Plus, this deal has also been criticized by militant group of Gaza strip known as Hamas. They have charged this deal as an agreement that will help maintain crime and violation against Palestinians.

The deal was also labelled as an act of shame by Iran’s foreign minister. This was indirectly due to USA’s growing interference and control in middle east and forming an alliance.

The same deal has been appreciated by Egypt and Jordan. They believe that this agreement could help push ahead stalled peace negotiations.

Conclusion

However, there are direct and indirect implication of these two nation’s ties on India and Pakistan.

It first has necessitated Pakistan to clarify its own position on the question of Israel- Palestine issue. The Prime Minister of Pakistan replied that Pakistan would not acknowledge Israel until Palestinian rights are upheld and supported.

It is clear that this US sponsored deal is a vessel for firming up the opposition to Iran’s growing power and influence. Islamabad’s historical and strategic association with Saudi Arabia and its geographical proximity to Iran, makes it crucial for Pakistan as it needs to continue good relation with both as it can spur extremist impulses both inside Pakistan and the neighboring regions.

Third, India’s deepening engagement with the Arab Gulf has come at the expenses of Arab support against India’s atrocities in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The muted feedback of the Arab capitals to India’s attack on Balakot has added worth to some of these concerns.

The peace accord means that the fund that Pakistan was receiving for the so called “Kashmiri war” will be gone. India’s growing influence over the Middle East will compel fewer buyers in West Asia outside Turkey and Iran to take up the Kashmir cause at the risk.

Overall, this deal has good effects on us as Israel is a friend of India, so its deal with UAE will have positive impact on us as well.
