A Lot of My Content Inspiration Comes From People Around - Nikita Agarwal Manchanda

Being a creator does not mean posting a picture daily and growing followers but it’s about inspiring, influencing that one person that might learn something from your piece of content.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I was born and bought up in Gangtok, Sikkim. As family ritual and Gangtok being a small town, I was sent to Vidya Devi Jindal School, located in Haryana – Boarding school from class 6. I was inclined towards hospitality industry since class 10.

Hence, I desired to peruse Hospitality Management and completed my course from Iihm – Kolkata and went to Queen Margaret University – Edinburgh to complete my management course in Hospitality Management.

Coming from sales and management background, I was working with multiple national & international hotel chains in India & UK until 2015. I am currently located in Kolkata and have been working as a full-time Content Creator since 2015.

2. When did you first decide that you wanted to create content and how did you start?

While I was studying in UK, I saw the culture of journaling & blogging. With much curiosity and enthusiasm, I started journaling about my experience, my travel, food and everything I experienced while my stay in Uk.

After I came back to India (2012) and while I was working with one of the hotel chains, I started journaling on online platform (blogpost.in) and since then I guess, I became a blogger.

Blogging culture had just emerged and was fairly new in 2012 in India. While I was working in Bangalore at that time, my work place find out I was a blogger too and gave me a lot of opportunities as a blogger/employee.

As there were just a few of us during that time, I was recognised and Bangalore as a city came as a dream to me – as it successfully took me along the path of being a blogger and hence I guess I then decided I wanted to be a content creator.

3. Is vlogging and content creation a financially sustainable career?

Well, there are hardships. I wouldn’t say it is completely financially sustainer career. Specially, today when content generation is all about big numbers and marketing gimmick.

However, on the contrary if you are passionate towards it, take the profession seriously, it does pay your bills. I am extremely satisfied with choosing blogging / creator as a professional career as it has truly helped me (financially) explore other arenas.

Today, I am a co founder of a Home décor brand and the same would have not been possible without my earnings and support from Pen Twister.

4. Who is your favorite creator and why?

There are many. But my favourite is Eva Chen. Her Content is a mix of her personal & professional life. It’s a joy to watch her content because there is so much to relate to, get inspired and teaches us how to have fun.

5. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

Honestly, finding inspiration to churn out content is a task. It’s a task to wake up every morning and look for inspiration. But if you look around, everything is an inspiration. From what we eat in a day to what we wear in a day.

A lot of my content inspiration come from people around. From my travel to my relationship. Currently, the biggest inspiration of my content is my Pet – Bella.

6. Which is your favourite book and why?

My all-time favourite book is “Die Empty” by Todd Henry.

It’s a beautiful book that teaches us a lot of things as human beings. It tells us to die empty. It tells us to deliver all our goodness / skills / ideas / knowledge to the world, before we leave. The book truly teaches us about life.

7. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring creators?

Wow. There honestly isn’t much except one. Being a creator does not mean posting a picture daily and growing followers but it’s about inspiring, influencing that one person that might learn something from your piece of content.

I feel as creators we have a huge responsibility on our shoulders. The responsibility of showcasing right products, right values, right opinion. Your one wrong move or one wrong action can have a bad influence on someone.

All I want to say is find your motive, find your niche and then start creating. Having an Instagram account with 100k followers and having 10,000 beautiful images is not what creating is.

Inspire. Get inspired. Learn. Teach. Give back to your audience. Thank them. Do not think of it as a single interest platform.
