1. Tell us more about your background and journey.
I am Deepa Shah, the face behind the art handle (deemandalamagicgirl) on Instagram. I am a freelance self-made & art educator from Coimbatore. Art & craft has always been my hobby & interest since I was a child. I always enjoyed being a part of creative & art-based activities in my college days.
This grew into my passion & profession when I started enjoying to teach as an art educator & conducted various workshops in the past 3 years. I became a full-time artist & art educator when I started my page on social media & got great response & appreciation for my art.
Art to me is the most positive, calming & therapeutic form of mind meditation. I love experimenting & trying out new style forms, patterns on a variety of mediums like watercolour, mixed media, gouache & acrylics.
I always try to learn something new every day & push myself out of my own comfort zone to always strive to be the best version of myself.
2. Who is your favourite artist and why?
I am my own favourite. I do not have any specific favourites. I admire a lot of talented & amazing artist from around the globe. They are too inspiring to pick just one.
3. Is it a financially stable career?
Art career is a very slow & unstable process. It doesn’t happen overnight unlike regular paid jobs. Financial income comes with the way you approach the right audience, the way you showcase & sell your work & marketing strategies. I am still learning to explore the various options available on social media platforms.
4. Where do you get inspired to create art?
The whole universe in itself is an inspiration. My thoughts, my positive mind, my way of looking at things on a day to day life, things around me inspire me to create & make something better than yesterday.
5. What kind of book do you prefer to read?
I love reading suspense thrillers & love stories. My favourites are Sidney Sheldon, Jeffery Archer, Jane Austen, Enrich Segal & E L James.
6. What piece of advice would you like to give to the future aspirants?
My little piece of advice to the budding artist will be :
Have a passion for whatever you do in life.
Enjoy & create art for yourself not for gaining followers or just simply because others are doing.
Practice & patience without comparing & copying others will help you create your identity.
Believe in yourself and Create your style without fear that will help you grow as a confident artist.
