Start with one meal at a time, it doesn’t have to be every day and see how things go for you. I think most importantly is to do it with a goal. Give yourself a set goal and mark it with a sticker. It’s fun and motivating.

1.Tell us more about your background and journey.

I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and came to US to further my studies in college. I am self-taught cook who wants to inspire others to have a meatless dish, one meal at a time.

2.What inspired you to pursue cooking?

Being the eldest in the family and curious about food since young, I loved to explore what I’m eating. To save money in college years, the best way is to cook at home. I have always loved to watch cooking TV shows and that inspired me a lot in trying new things.

3.When and how did you choose to become vegan?

I started a vegetarian diet at a young age and learning about vegan food a few years ago. The vegan diet here is very similar to the vegetarian Buddhist style back at home. So, it was not a hard transition though I am still learning about the vegan lifestyle such as things that I normally use.

4.What are the benefits of a vegan diet?

To me, I feel like incorporating more vegetables in any diet would be great. Eating a variety of food will help increase your immune system

5.How challenging is a vegan lifestyle according to you?

The most challenging part according to me is learning about the products I usually use. Luckily, there are a lot of resources online that I can read before purchasing a product. If I’m unsure, I’ll just reach out to the company and most of the time, they will be happy to answer any questions.

6.What advice would you give to aspiring food bloggers?

Since I’m still learning a lot myself, here are some things that have helped me: be humble, be kind, and be open to learn new things.

7.How would you motivate our readers to adopt a vegan lifestyle?

Start with one meal at a time, it doesn’t have to be every day and see how things go for you. I think most importantly is to do it with a goal. Give yourself a set goal and mark it with a sticker. It’s fun and motivating.

8.Which is your favorite book and why?

While I don’t read a lot of books, I do love cooking books and Buddhism books. Cooking book always inspire me with new methods or remind me of a method that I’ve forgotten since young. Buddhism books always help me in expanding my knowledge and how to treat others, including my own.

My name is WoonHeng Chia and I wish to share with you my passion for creating plant-based cuisines, usually made with an Asian twist. I love to veganize foods from various countries and cultures by exploring plant-based alternatives.

It makes me elated every time when I successfully veganize a popular dish because this means people can now enjoy their favorite dish without hurting any animals. By putting more diverse and delicious plant-based options out there, I hope this will encourage people to try adopting a plant-based lifestyle, one meal at a time.
