Aishwarya & Yukta - It's Hard to Grow as a Content Creator Especially With Coming Changes in Instagram (Content Creator from India)

It's hard to grow as a content creator if you exist in a vacuum, and with the coming changes in the algorithm of Instagram it is really difficult to outshine yourself but just keep one thing in mind that you have to be consistent about your creation, bold about your choices or decision you make, be yourself and upgrade your content and put variation with what you do so that your Followers aren't disappointed.

Tell us about your background and journey.

My sister, Yukta and I, belong to the "city of joy" Kolkata. I am pursuing my postgraduate and my sister is an undergraduate student. We had the same schooling and University.

So, being a Student it is quite difficult to handle everything on our own whether you say our studies or responsibility towards our family, I being the eldest one and handling my own page which is also my passion but with my Mother's support, it was possible. Food is something that brings people together and when you get to showcase your talent in this field your best comes automatically out of it.

The bond with my family which I have now wasn't something I had from the beginning but now we all are "one" and if any one of us isn't available the post which we create or any recipe which we try is incomplete.

As we come from an Indian middle-class family, my father was not supportive, or shall I say he didn't like the idea of us doing something in this field and he had this thought that all of this is a waste of time, but later on when he saw our little achievements and the fact that it made us happy more so than anything else, he started supporting us in his own little ways despite his own struggles and I think that is also something we have accomplished.

To cut the long story short, food has brought us together, it has made us a family and no matter what our hardships are in life, this is one thing that brings us joy and keeps us united.

When did you first decide that you wanted to create digital content and how did you start?

It was never a decision to make because I wasn't aware about the field or how can one showcase its talent, but also it didn't happen overnight because I can't see myself falling over anything.

I literally gave a lot of thought before starting page and when I made up my mind I was like for the first few months just my friends have to know about it because they were hard-core supportive and no one in my family member or relative except my siblings, and as it turned out well I disclose this to everyone in my family and didn't receive the response which I was hoping for, but now I know it's worth it, devoting my time and energy on it is a total worth and people around me ask about this page and how I am managing everything and I feel great and amazing to answer their questions.

Is vlogging and digital content creation a financially sustainable career?

If one pursues their passion or hobby and turn it into a career then it'll turn into a financial means, according to me it can be financially sustainable if there's creativity because here things don't go out of fashion or anything but with each passing day you learn a lot and you create a lot.

So, with a good amount of followers and the leading brands approaching you for their advertisement, eventually, it'll lead and turn into a financial sustainable career. As of now for me it's a huge way, even I do product promotion but only on a barter basis where you promote their brand when they deliver your product.

So, yes it could be a sustainable career if you follow the protocols correctly or just start your own small business.

How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

I always wanted to become a hotelier, my dream was to pursue hotel management and I like to try every new recipe now and then and hotel management would've been a huge platform for me as I will be able to learn a lot of new things and it would give me great exposure, but since I come from a restrictive family I wasn't allowed to follow my dream because of which I had to pursue CS(company secretary) which didn't turn out well and as the pandemic began I had a lot of free time to invest and the idea of cooking which was just a hobby became my passion and I started creating and clicking pictures.

On one fine day, my friends forced me they made me understood that you can create a Page and you'll succeed but I wasn't sure of myself, as I said I gave a lot of thought and for that my best friends Saarah and Dhiraj they had supported me a lot, even now when I feel demotivated she(Saarah) is always there to support me guide me so that I never drop off the edge, after my mother she has always been there. My friends were an inspiration for me they wanted me to do this and now I am grateful to them.

My mother, she has always acted as a backbone, and its normal siblings fight over silly things also without my sister and brother this page isn't possible because this page is not only about cooking it's about our photography and every photography needs editing and for that, I have my siblings who help me a lot in doing so. If it hadn't been for them I won't be able to achieve something great like this.

What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring digital creators or influencers?

It's hard to grow as a content creator if you exist in a vacuum, and with the coming changes in the algorithm of Instagram it is really difficult to outshine yourself but just keep one thing in mind that you have to be consistent about your creation, bold about your choices or decision you make, be yourself and upgrade your content and put variation with what you do so that your Followers aren't disappointed.

Consider your followers as your audience and be there for them you cannot just disappear some days and pop up again you have to be consistent since you are allowing them to know you and don't make them feel left out. No kidding, even I am an amateur and still learning about a lot of things in the past year it has been a roller coaster ride which I don't want to end.
