11 Signs That Your Workplace Might Just Be the Best Place to Work In

In any company, the workplace culture makes or breaks the place. Unless it is a company that runs itself with zero human capital, all workplaces have groups of people that naturally lead to a workplace culture being formed.

This culture can end up dictating the “mood” or vibe of the office. It can be anything from the rosy “k-drama” style to “the-office” style or even “the game of thrones” sometimes. Exaggerate much?

At the end of the day, the workplace culture forms your experience and fuels you to enjoy your work, and keeps the passion alight. You know what they say, if your work is not fun, you are not playing on the right team.

It is often confusing what factors are to be focused on to determine a good workplace culture. But there are several easy ways to pinpoint how “healthy” one’s workplace is.

So, whether you are a fresher out in the big ocean of an economy looking for a job or are already in one and is feeling it out right now, here are some signs to look for to identify whether your workplace might just be the perfect haven or not.

The Long Haul

When the employee turnover of the company is low, it means more employees are choosing to stay in the company for the long haul than skip over to other jobs.

This can mean that the company is offering valuable growth opportunities allowing one’s career to flourish. It is also a good indicator of the health of work culture as most people don’t stay long in an unhappy workplace.

The Mission and Vision

A great workplace is not made overnight nor is the employee’s contribution enough to make it work. A genuinely good workplace culture stems from the organization’s beliefs and what it strives to be.

The foundation for the workplace culture is laid by having a clear mission and values with leadership willing to strive to make it a reality along with constant communication.

When these values are taken in by the employer and every employee of the company, their functioning angles towards cultivating a better workplace culture.
Look out for signs of what the company strives to achieve in terms of the workplace environment and their internal communication.

This can help you give an idea of the company’s take towards an ideal workplace.

The Bond

If you see good dynamics between colleagues not just informal manner but also that extends to genuine friendship, it is a sign of good workplace dynamics.
When employees are willing to widen their communication beyond office hours and work topics and hang out, you know that this is not a bad place to be.

The Involvement

If you hear mumbles and grumbles whenever an office dinner is announced, or a team picnic or match is announced it is probably a sign that the employees are not that invested in the company.

But when they voluntarily show up, in large numbers for events hosted by the company, this means they are excited to involve themselves and believes that they will have a great time.

This Ain’t the CIA!

Lack of transparency in communication between colleagues and even between ranks can lead to the drawing of boundaries in the workplace. This is especially common from top management to subordinates.

When there are no secrets, there is a free flow of communication which contributes to positive work culture.

Unity in Diversity

This is the 21st century. If in today’s world you see a workplace with a uniform demographic, it can be a red flag.

Diversity should not be practiced just in hiring, but also in approaches and thoughts which allows employees room to have their own unique opinion and way to do things. This shows respect for individuality and does great things to boost one’s confidence.

The Hall of Fame

A good company will take great pains to set up an appraisal system for its employees.

This does not mean just payroll but also appreciating the unique achievements of its employees. Badges, medals, awards, free trips, bonuses, and even parking privileges can all be ways to recognize a star performer.

If your company is taking the pains to do that, congratulations, you just won the jackpot!!!

The Leader

No one likes a stuck-up boss! In a workplace, an unapproachable leader creates a sense of detachment from the company itself.

A leader is supposed to be approachable, one who leads by example, honest, authentic, and not busy throwing airs at their subordinates. A good sense of togetherness with a dose of trust and respect, not fear, to one’s leader, can do great things to a company’s workplace.

Many firms have even adopted an “open door” policy with their top management increasing the approachability of the leaders.

The Infrastructure

A good workspace, safe and suited to the vibe of the office, with proper infrastructure and amenities can ensure an employee’s comfort all the nine hours or more, they are working on.

It can make employees feel like they are cared for by their employer and such an act will never go unnoticed. Who would not want a company that takes that care to make an employee seem welcome to their office!

The Politics

Politics are everywhere, even in good workplaces if you look close enough. But a positive environment, unbiased, open to diverse opinions and beliefs in honest appreciation sees much less of this politics and only becomes a passive moment than building on to something damaging.

The Opportunity

Any company that is willing to hear their employee out, take in suggestion and opinion, and allow participation in management gives way for employee growth, this builds a strong sense of commitment and long-term value relation among firm and employees.
