If you’re one of the myriads, who don’t make
a habit of reading regularly, you might be missing a lot out.
World
of fiction books:
Stories are an irrevocable part of our
community. Whether it’s preferring to move to a new place or simply narrating
to a friend what you did over the day, stories are being made and shared every
single day. But how all of this is related to reading fiction books?
Works of fiction blend the real-life and
imaginary world into compelling stories that entrance people back in time, let
them visit faraway places and encounter other cultures.
According to an article on the BBC, research
has shown that fiction novels make people more compassionate and empathetic.
However, the story goes much deeper than the shallow image it is being portrayed.
Fiction books are the key to procure a
colossal amount of knowledge and sagacity. They can turn out to be your buddy,
a mentor, like a luminous guide at the end of a dark tunnel.
Fiction permits us to relate to circumstances
that are far from our own and allows us to feel the feelings of those affected
by them. They also teach us skills that are vital in our daily life.
They help you in exploring all sorts of
imagination and provide food to your philosophies. They help you in widening
your knowledge in values of life.
Till
death do us part:
We are surrounded by books all the time,
right from our childhood to college life and travel with us for many years. In
childhood, we generally hear stories from our parents.
We learnt many lessons from our parents
through these books and we lead our life peacefully also in guidance of a book.
I assure you this, life be incomplete without our lighting guide to knowledge,
'the book'.
When we grow up, we read novels and different
interesting stories in order to create suspense in our life, like what would
happen if our life falls up and down just like the protagonist.
As far as I have known, for majority of
people, books are part of their everyday life. Books play a quintessential role
in a person's life by hauling them to a world of creativity, providing
knowledge on how to manage the world, improving their reading, writing and
speaking prowess as well as boosting our memory and intelligence.
We write books to represent ourselves and we
read books to understand the various stages of life. That is how books have a
connection to us. Books stay with us.
Why
do people love reading?
I believe that there is something undeniably
exceptional about reading. And the fact is, we don’t just love to read books.
We love to talk about them. Why? What is your favourite thing about books?
I have loved reading since before I got my
library card. Others came to appreciate my hobby later in life. I could relate
to numerous memories of this reading habit.
My friend and I would choose a book together
during the library period offered in our school and share our reviews after
completing them.
The frustration of being told by my parents
to take a break from reading and go outside. And not to forget about the
refreshed feeling that I continue to encounter each day when I spend reading a
book.
Whether I’m being swept away by an exciting
tale, or being immersed in an emotional one, a good book always provides solace
and a break from this dark world.
I love to get lost in a book. But I do hate
the feeling of letting go of my favourite book after completing it.
Benefits
of reading books:
Here are some of the benefits of reading
fiction books and I hope you will eventually start reading books after
completing this article.
1. Stimulates
your brain cells
Reading involves an intense network of
circuits and various signals in the brain. As your reading ability matures,
those networks also get tenacious and more sophisticated.
While reading and concentrating on the words
and the storyline, they stimulate our brain and cognitive functions. This
particular stimulation can help sharpen our minds, especially the part of the
brain liable for concentration and critical analysis.
2. Provides
you with an empathic nature
According to researchers, people who often
read fiction stories which explores the inner lives of protagonists, showed an
elevated ability to understand the feelings and beliefs of others. They help
you in understanding the ethics of life.
3. Lifts
your mood
They give contentment, motivates you and
makes you escape from the tension. It doesn't matter how stressed you are at
work or countless other issues faced in life, it just slips away when you lose
yourself in an amazing plot. They can help you to explore all sorts of
imagination and provide food to your philosophies.
4. Widens
your vocabulary
It is
said that knowledge is an unquenchable thirst. The more you read, the more
words you'll be gaining from them. They’ll inescapably find their way into your
vocabulary. It could even aid in your profession, as those who are well-read,
well-spoken, and knowledgeable on diversity topics tend to get promotions
quickly than those with more petite vocabularies and lack of awareness of
global events.
5. Improves
your analytic thinking
Have you ever read an astounding mystery
novel, and solved the mystery yourself before completing the book? Like the
novels, Poirot and Sherlock holmes? There are other noteworthy novels but I
mentioned them because they're my favourite.
That same expertise to analyze circumstances
also comes in handy when it comes to critiquing the plot. Determining whether
it was written well, if the character sketch was developed properly and if the
storyline was smooth, etc comes along with it.
And the important thing is, those who read
books endured around two years longer than those who either did not read or
read magazines and other forms of media instead of a proper book.
So do spend your valuable time to books every
day for at least an hour rather than squandering time on social media.
Lessons
learned from books:
These are some of my favourite fiction books
and the lessons I learnt from them are listed below:
1. Coma
by Robin Cook - To think out of the box.
2. Sherlock
Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle - Never
give up your dream unless it's fulfilled.
3. The
Orient Express by Agatha Christie - As a leader, you have to have a
discerning eye. You have to see what is real and what is false.
4. All
the bright places by
Jennifer Niven - Life is worth living and that you can still find happiness,
even when things are going terribly.
5. Veronika
decides to die by Paulo Coelho -
You need to stop thinking that you're blocking someone's path and think for
yourself
6. Fault
in our stars by John Greed
- You can't always get what you want.
7. Hunger
Games by Suzanne Collins - Be
selfless and never doubt the importance of perception.
Despite being in thrall to enlightenment,
wisdom comes not only from knowing facts but also from knowing truths about
human nature. It comes from seeing through facts to their fundamental patterns.
We are moulded by the stories that we read and hear.
Then what you are waiting for, go and grab a
book and make it a habit of reading atleast a chapter a day.
