Promising Highlights from the Drama
1. The eye-catching scenes of the live court show
“Welcome to a court owned by you.” (Judge Kang Yo Han)
In so many years of watching tv/web legal shows both in the English and Asian entertainment industry, never have I seen a robe for the Supreme Court Judge as lavishing and sexy as these.
While the three judges always have different opinions regarding the trials and punishments, the narrative unfolds in an exhilarating way in each episode as they work in unity after overcoming the various hardships posed by the fictive leaders of the Korean Society - Jung Sun Ah, Minister of Justice, Chief Justice, Mr. President, CEOs of media companies, etc.
The trials held in this live courtroom have an atmosphere very different from the traditional ones. The most comforting part about the show is that the presiding Judge Yo Han asks for the public’s views and votes whether the accused are guilty or not through the Dike app, depicting the importance of the public and their right to know the truth behind their nation's failure in development.
2. Charismatic Kang Yo Han
Various instances throughout the drama and how the characters describe Yo Han will surely influence your perspective about his personality and his immaculate performance will continue to strengthen your belief that he is the devil above all.
I got swayed by his performance too. But he is genuinely someone who pulled off the character beautifully after Professor Yang in Law School. The development of his relationships with other characters in the drama is the second appealing aspect, particularly with Kim Ga On and Elijah.
He is the “protagonist” you should look up to while watching the show. His relationship with Sun Ah cannot be left out and is impressive to watch their scenes while they share similar tendencies and compete for their purposes.
3. The Ending Scene
While Judge Kang Yo Han and Judge Kim Ga On share a peculiarly brotherly relationship, towards the end you will completely fall in love with everything they have gone through including questioning each other’s trust and loyalty but still live to see each other doing well wherever they are.
Yo Han surely uses discomforting and devastating means to teach a lesson to young lads supporting the powerful in their corrupt and illegal acts but it helps uncover the truth and make the world a place living and fighting for justice.
The end emphasizes more on Kim Ga On’s ability to ensure the world does not require judges like Kang Yo Han to bring justice by using ruthless means and demeaning the efficacy of the Korean legal system in the nation and the world.
Famous Dialogues from the Drama
“...and the verdict is 235 years of imprisonment.” (Judge Kang Yo Han)
“A judge has the most power when he does what the law says.” (Judge Kim Ga On)
“Possibility is a drug.”
“You can’t buy justice with money.”
The Bottom Line
If you are juggling with the difficulty of deciding which Korean drama to watch next then this is the one. It is a unique courtroom drama, a realistic depiction of the failure of the Korean society and legal system in times of crisis that provides fantastic satisfaction.
