Planning a date is normal but planning a girl to date on the other hand is weird. Getting dumped is normal but getting a guy to dump you on the other hand, is classic nancy drew.

Even though betting on a person to fall for you is quite normal among guys. And especially chick-flicks are immensely inspired by this storyline. And even though it’s a terrible thing to treat someone this way, this one movie neither felt terrible nor tear-jerking. It only sends us ROFL.

Elevator Pitch

It was my luck that this movie turned out to be amusing, for I was apprehensive that maybe I'm wasting my time. But boy I was wrong. Because I was laughing my ass out. You know for me a movie isn’t good if I can’t watch it again. And Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson’s starrer this movie turned out to be just that.

A ‘How to’- columnist for composure(one of the successful women’s magazines) Andy Anderson comes up with the idea of ‘How to lose a guy in 10 days after one of her colleagues is dumped by her boyfriend.

Besides she hopes to write upon more important and standard issues like politics or economics, therefore she dives right into this one to make this article a success for only then she’d get promoted. And in order to work on the aforementioned topic, she bets to date a guy who would dump her in 10 days.

While in the other corner of the town, Benjamin Barry, an executive is sick of tiny promotions. His endeavor is to target the biggest diamond merchant. Hence he promises his boss to get a new woman to fall in love with him in 10 days, to write a pitch on women. If only he knew he was about to be grilled too.

The predators were looking for their prey in the bar when; you call it destiny or what, they chose each other to hit it off. As they began dating the actual fun ensued. Andy is all set to drive the man crazy with her ditzy shenanigans.

Her antics are a smorgasbord of things and her confidence is sexy. Going home with a hot guy, luring him to sex, and then leaving in between, is a perfect tactic to play hard to get while also being all mushy and clingy so that the guy hates you.

Benjamin on the other hand is praiseworthy for his equanimity. The man is an aphrodisiac with his Gandhian patience.

He literally goes through whatever torture Andy planned for him and albeit he’s exploding, the dawg is ready to endure more. Therewithal, the so-called couple goes to Barry’s parent’s house. And the actual real chemistry takes off.

While all is hunky-dory in paradise for the two until the truth comes racing towards them. And who can blame who? Both are caught off guard and hurt.

The Fun Parts

The movie’s middle section is hilarity. It’s like, you should be pissed at the two for hoodwinking each other, so hardcore. But what do we do instead burst out laughing! And to our defense, some of the scenes were spontaneously laughable.

For instance, Andy naming Benjamin’s penis, “princess sophia”, having her miniature dog pee on his carpet or turning his bathroom with all girly pink things.

And even more fantastic, sabotaging his soccer game night, by constantly asking him for snacks, drinks, etc, and herself enjoying the game.

She even went on to destroy the boy’s poker night and talked to Benjamin’s brother behind his back. Coming to know about it he almost decided to break up with her but eventually took her to his home.

Bottom Line

The moral of the story is; if you plan on bamboozling someone then kindly don’t feel cheated if you’re stabbed in the process too. And even though other reviews were kind of critical due to the ever-so-common bet game. However, I liked how this time a girl took the guy with such ease and confidence.

Yes, she was playing too but it seemed Andy sort of had the upper hand most of the time. I loved Benjamin too and his incredible equanimity, for in reality guys rarely put up with tantrum-throwing ditzy girls. And even just for the bet, he turned out to be an equalizer to a rambunctious Andy.
