Nancy Shah - My Vision Is To Empower People Through Public Speaking (Anchor and Voice-Actor From India)

Nancy Shah

My vision is to empower people through public speaking. If I realise my vision, that would empower a lot of people by giving them a self-confidence to share your thoughts and ideas. No matter what you do in life, how you speak matters. And through my vision, I wish to help people with the same.

1. Tell us more about yourself and your experience?

I am Nancy Shah. I was born and brought up in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. As part of my education, I have done B.Com and MBA. I started my career working as a faculty in Management. Gradually moved into soft skills training and learning & development.

After having 5 years of work experience in different organisations I started working on my own as a freelancer, I am into various things.

1) Training: I train students as well as corporates for different sets of skills like soft skills, managerial skills, campus to corporate, public speaking, and communication skills and likewise.

2) Anchoring: I work as an anchor for different corporate and social events. I host shows Pan India.

3) Voice-Actor: I do Voiceovers in English, Hindi, and Gujarati languages.

4) Speakers’ Circle: I run an initiative called Speakers’ Circle. It’s a platform to develop Public Speaking and Communication skills. It’s a community of like-minded people where everyone can learn and grow together.

In one word, I am an explorer by heart. I try things that come my way.

I have associated myself with #NancyOnStage.

2. What are some ways to be a good anchor?

Surprisingly there is no formal education or standardised course that can make anyone a good anchor. Almost all the professionals who work in this industry have started out of passion and learned to experience.

So what makes anyone a good anchor;

1)  A zeal to be one stage and talk. That’s the core. Your love for the stage and mic and your commitment towards your work is the first and foremost thing. One should also have strong personality and self-confidence.

2) Content Development and Delivery: You would need to write content regarding different events and occasions, different brands, and companies. Of course, you get a reference material and basic understanding but you need to curate something specific for each show. Apart from that, one should have command over language, fluency, and confidence to deliver the content in a suitable manner.

3) Flexibility and spontaneity: Events are all about live experiences. And no matter how well you plan there are a few things that might come as a surprise. One has to have a flexible approach and a spontaneous behaviour to deal with adapting situations. Also, this profile does not have fixed working hours or work locations. One has to be flexible to travel and work as per the requirement.

4) Professional behaviour: This is required for any individual from any field, so do the anchors. It’s important to keep your commitments and word and adhere to the guidelines. Be punctual and disciplined and stick to your core values.

3. What are the different filler performances or questions or things an        anchor can do?

There are a lot of ways to do it. The core is there shouldn’t be any dull moment. The show must go on. And connecting with your audience is always a priority.

You can try to connect with the audience through different engagement activities, games, interactions, and a lot more.

Always try to understand the requirement and be ready with the fillers which you can use as and when required.

4. As a public speaker what would the world look like if you realise your vision- who would benefit?

My vision is to empower people through public speaking. If I realise my vision, that would empower a lot of people by giving them a self-confidence to share your thoughts and ideas.

No matter what you do in life, how you speak matters. And through my vision, I wish to help people with the same.

5. Can you share some of your voice-acting experiences with us?

Recording your voice in a studio is a totally different experience than performing on stage. Here in a studio, you need to assume that there are people who are listening to you. It’s sort of acting through your voice.

Every script demands a different sort of voice. You need to express the emotions through your voice. Be it happy, sad, enthusiastic, or even anger. It’s fun to be able to make difference through your voice but it isn’t as easy as it seems.

6. What one word best sums you and your vision?

Empower
