Sumesh and Jishnu

Believe in your dreams, work smart, and trust the process. One day you will be proud of yourself. Any negative feedback only makes us stronger. If you become an authentic piece of art, people will love it. Embrace art in you and it will take care of you.

1.  Tell us more about your background and journey.

Being the founder of my college dance club, I always enjoyed dancing together, sharing knowledge, and getting together to practice and perform. After getting my degree, I worked in some companies but my soul was always in dance. After a year, I quit my job & started traveling around the country and learned maximum from the most eminent artists across India.

The urge to share the knowledge that I gained made me travel back to my city. From then I started working in this community called "myself and my moves" and started sharing the right knowledge with our people in Kerala. The response and support from our people were so great that I decided to stick on to this community.

My friend Jishnu and I started working together and we decided to open a studio in Thrissur that provides exposure to different dance styles that were not familiar in our state at that time. Now we bring world-class dancers to Kerala to make the dancers of our state experience international level training.

2. When did you first decide you wanted to form a crew?

As mentioned earlier, the urge to share the right knowledge was so high. I wanted people to get educated without spending a lot of money & traveling around. So we opened a studio and our crew consists of our students. Their growth and commitment to dance & the community are what's keeping us going strong.

3. How do you overcome the difficulties you face?

There were a lot of struggles throughout the journey. But everything seemed easy when I started believing in my dreams.

4. Can you throw some light on opportunities one gets as a dancer?

Everyone is either a dancer or a person who enjoys dance. Those who give time to learn it are really special according to me. A Dancer can be a teacher, choreographer, entertainer, someone who expresses his/her emotions, and who can tell stories through music.

Dance training is also a job like all other jobs. It only needs soul, body, and space.

5. Is format training required or can one train themselves purely based on talent?

Proper training is mandatory in any form of dance. Without proper training, a dancer can't get the real style and refine their movements.

6. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring artists?

Believe in your dreams, work smart, and trust the process. One day you will be proud of yourself.

Any negative feedback only makes us stronger. If you become an authentic piece of art, people will love it. Embrace art in you and it will take care of you.

7. How does it feel to be in a group with whom you can share and grow your passion?

I feel grateful for my crew. They have always pushed me to grow more and more. My crew is my strength. It is like a get-together of people who have similar interests. A community is strong when people in it support each other and help each other grow. I believe it's happening right here. So grateful for my community.
