Bhangarh Fort is said to be India's most haunted location, with the largest unresolved mystery. There's no denying that anything associated with the supernatural draws tons of attention, and therefore the desolate city of Bhangarh takes advantage of that fact. Bhangarh Fort has become a kind of bucket list trip thanks to its many ghost stories. Curious visitors arrive in search of cheap thrills, and while some are disappointed, others can't get enough of the mystery surrounding the narrative of the Bhangarh Fort.

History of Bhangarh Fort

According to popular legend, Raja Bhagwant Das built the fort for his younger son, Madho Singh, who is claimed to have named it after either his father or grandfather. Man Singh I, a loyal general and one of Mughal emperor Akbar's nine advisors (called Navratnas), is perhaps the family's most well-known member today.

The majority of individuals believe that Bhangarh Fort is haunted, and several stories increase the mystery surrounding Bhangarh. Visiting the fort after sunset is considered a bold act because it is said to be a hotspot for paranormal activity. As a result, the Archaeological Survey of India has barred people from visiting the Bhangarh Fort at night.

The stories behind Bhangarh Fort

1. The most popular of the many Bhangarh myths told by the people is that of Emperor Madho Singh, who created the city with the blessing of Guru Balu Nath, an ascetic who used to meditate there. The saint agreed on the condition that the Emperor's palace's shadow should never fall on his retreat.

If that happened, the city would be destroyed. Guru Balu's refuge was sadly shaded by the palace once the construction was completed. After incurring the saint's wrath, Bhangarh was converted into a cursed city that could never be restored because no constructions survived. It's worth noting that Guru Balu's tomb is located in India.

2. Princess Ratnavati is the subject of another Bhangarh Fort narrative. Ratnavati, who was Chatr Singh's daughter. She was Rajasthan's crown jewel. Ratnavati was much younger than her stepbrother Ajab Singh, and she was as popular as he was unpopular. Her beauty and sweet disposition were widely publicized, and she got numerous marriage proposals.

She fell crazy with a Tantrik priest who was well-versed in dark magic. But, knowing he had no chance against the stunning princess, he attempted to cast a spell on her. When he saw the princess' maid within the village buying perfume for her, he cast a spell thereon to make Ratnavati fall crazy with him. When Ratnavati learned about this, she threw the bottle. It became a boulder and slammed into the Tantrik.

He perished as a result of its weight, but not before cursing the princess, her family, and therefore the entire hamlet. The following year, Ratnavati and therefore the majority of the military were killed during a fight between the armies of Bhangarh and Ajabgarh. No one in the village or fort could be reincarnated because of this curse; it is perpetually cursed to desolation and inhabited by ghosts. When a villager attempts to construct a roof, it inexplicably collapses.

Even though the Bhangarh fort narrative has been debunked by scientists, the locals continue to believe it is a haunted house. Unidentified noises have allegedly been heard frequently. Women screamed and cried, bangles broke, and odd music came from the fort, according to the residents. There have been reports of a distinct scent emerging from the Bhangarh Fort, as well as ghostly shadows and strange lights.

Some people have reported feeling pursued and even swatted by an unseen presence. It is said that anyone who enters the fort after sunset will never leave. After sunset, the doors are always secured, and nighttime entry into the Bhangarh Fort is strictly prohibited.

Many strange stories surround Bhangarh and its unfortunate visitors.

It has a long history of suffering and pain, which locals think has manifested itself in horrific accidents and disasters. Locals also said that three daredevils once opted to stay in the Bhangarh Fort grounds after sunset to check whether it was indeed haunted. Despite having a torch, one among them fell into a deep well and was saved by friends who brought him to the hospital. But, as fate would have it, all three of them died during a car accident while on their way to the hospital.
