I, Atulan, started my journey by dancing, teaching, and performing professionally in a dance company while I was completing my bachelor's in psychology. I have formally trained in many dance forms in the years 2015–2020. After leaving the company, I freelanced as a dance teacher for 1 year and am currently a full-time fitness trainer for a New York-based Barre Fitness Company called Physique57 and also a travel & lifestyle influencer/content creator.
I, Divesh, started my journey by dancing, teaching, and performing professionally in a dance company while I was completing my schooling. I have formally trained in many dance forms in the years 2016–2020. After pursuing my passion for dance professionally, I am currently an in-house marketing executive for a brand while freelancing as a heels dance teacher and a travel and lifestyle influencer/content creator.
We met at an international contemporary dance touring company, where Atulan was Divesh’s senior.
I, Atulan, joined the dance company a year before Divesh. We never used to talk because I found him too young, but over time we realized how similar we are. We started replying to each other’s Instagram stories. And well, the rest is history." says Atulan.
Divesh Tolani and Atulan Purohit have a social media page on Instagram & YouTube, named Honey Imm Home.
2. What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?
We were on our way to our first-ever holiday trip together. At the airport, waiting for our boarding gates to open, we decided to just make an account for our close friends to just be jealous of when they see us together. Over a period of time, we didn't even know that it had inspired so many people.
The work was a lot, but the fact that we have a family who we call "homies" kept supporting us and took the time to tell us that what we're doing is positively impacting people and motivated us to do it more.
Over time, we used the reason of making content together as a way to spend time with each other, and now thinking of it in the long term, this seems very much possible as a long-term career option!
We learned ways to monetize it and now just create things that we believe in, while keeping in mind that growth has to be consistent. We’re always finding ways to stay original while inviting more audiences to join our social media family, and that's where you as a reader come in!
3. How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?
A lot of influencers were called bloggers in the past. But there’s a different line between both, which we can now tell.
We used to create blogs too, but have stopped for the time being.
The difference is, that many bloggers are influencers. But, not all influencers can be bloggers.
4. Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?
We think artists, influencers, actors, models, etc., all have a very fluid income flow. Some months, they're high. Some months, it’s low.
It’s sustainable for those who are working smartly on this timely and consistently OR if you have a unique talent or forte. If not, it’s unlikely that it’s stable.
5. What do you think influences consumer behavior?
We live in a time where consumers are not easily influenced. There’s a lot that goes into having a customer actually make the purchase. Like, as the durability of the product/service, the famous personality acting as the ambassador of the product/service, brand ethos, price factor, etc. A customer in today’s time knows everything.
They’re smart & cautious before giving in to the purchase and only give in after having considered everything.
So, yes, marketing teams really need to consider all-round factors while expressing for the brands in the public’s eye.
6. What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?
We’re not greedy for success. That being said, we want to be successful and have goals too. But, we’re not open to giving up our mental & physical health, respect & our passion to reach those goals. That is the priority.
7. How can someone become a successful social media influencer?
Consistency, distinctness & reliability.
