"My motivation comes from the tangible impact of our work. Seeing a child access education, a community receive healthcare, or a young person find their voice in leadership fuels my passion."

Q. What is VVV CBO and Can you share your journey as a co-founder at VVV CBO?

Vibrant Voices Village Community-Based Organization (VVV CBO) is a grassroots initiative focused on empowering marginalized communities through education, health, and advocacy programs. As a co-founder, my journey has been driven by a passion for sustainable development and community empowerment. I envisioned VVV CBO as a platform where young people and underserved populations could find opportunities for growth, access to essential services, and a voice in decision-making.

Through strategic collaborations and advocacy, we have implemented impactful programs, including mental health initiatives and educational mentorship. Despite the challenges, seeing tangible improvements in people’s lives keeps me motivated.

Q. How do you identify and connect NGOs with funding opportunities and experts?

As a Project Manager at Kind Heart Organization, Kenya, and a recognized expert in grant writing and proposal development, I actively identify and connect grassroots NGOs with funding opportunities and expert support. My approach is multi-faceted.

Strategic Research & Networking: I consistently monitor international donor platforms, funding databases, and emerging grant opportunities. I also engage in global development forums, webinars, and networking events to stay updated on potential funding streams.

Partnerships & Capacity Building: I serve as a contact person for Senior Experten Services (SES), Germany, in Kenya, facilitating connections between grassroots organizations and experienced professionals who provide expert mentorship and technical guidance. Additionally, I assist NGOs in building and refining their project proposals, strategic plans, and donor alignment to enhance their funding success.

Multi-Sector Engagement: I actively collaborate with development agencies, private sector stakeholders, and institutional donors, ensuring that local organizations gain visibility and establish sustainable partnerships. Through these engagements, I help NGOs navigate funding landscapes, access technical expertise, and scale their impact effectively.

By leveraging these strategies, I bridge the gap between grassroots changemakers and global funding and expertise, ensuring that organizations working at the community level receive the support needed to drive sustainable development.

Q. Could you elaborate on your role in the first-ever United Nations Civil Society Conference in Africa? What did you learn from that experience?

I had the privilege of participating in the first-ever United Nations Civil Society Conference in Africa, held at the UN Headquarters in Nairobi. Representing Vibrant Voices Village (VVV) CBO, I engaged in discussions on youth empowerment, climate action, and the role of civil society in sustainable development. My role involved contributing insights on grassroots solutions, networking with global changemakers, and advocating for policies that reflect the realities of local communities.

This experience reinforced the power of collaboration and the importance of amplifying community voices in global decision-making. It was a learning opportunity that strengthened my commitment to ensuring that marginalized communities are not left behind in development conversations.

Q. What challenges have you encountered in promoting sustainable development, and how have you addressed them?

One major challenge is limited resources: many grassroots initiatives struggle with funding and technical support. Additionally, policy implementation gaps and bureaucratic hurdles slow progress in critical sectors like education and healthcare. To address these, I have focused on building strong partnerships, enhancing resource mobilization efforts, and advocating for policy reforms that support grassroots interventions.

Another challenge is community buy-in. Sustainability efforts require local ownership, so I prioritize inclusive participation, ensuring that communities are actively involved in designing and implementing solutions that affect them.

Q. How do you see the role of young leaders in shaping the future of sustainability?

Young leaders are at the forefront of sustainability, bringing fresh perspectives, technological innovation, and advocacy power. They are instrumental in driving climate action, social entrepreneurship, and policy advocacy. With access to digital platforms, youth can mobilize communities, amplify critical issues, and influence decision-makers.

However, young leaders need mentorship, resources, and policy support to maximize their impact. Creating spaces for youth in governance, funding youth-led initiatives, and fostering intergenerational partnerships will be crucial for a sustainable future.

Q. What motivates you to keep driving change in your community and beyond?

My motivation comes from the tangible impact of our work. Seeing a child access education, a community receive healthcare, or a young person find their voice in leadership fuels my passion. The resilience of the people we serve reminds me that change is possible, no matter how small the steps.

Additionally, I am driven by the belief that sustainable development is a collective responsibility. The challenges we face like poverty, inequality, and climate change, often require continuous action. Knowing that my efforts contribute to a larger movement for positive change keeps me going.
