Sanjay Kathuria: Financial Freedom Begins with Clarity, Not Complexity (CFA Charterholder, Founder - Profits First)

 Sanjay Kathuria Interview

Sanjay Kathuria

"Financial freedom is not about quitting your job. It is about having the power to make choices without fear."

Q. Your journey has inspired millions. Could you share how your early life, education, and career shaped your interest in personal finance and financial independence?

I come from a regular middle-class family where money was always about discipline, not abundance. That environment taught me early that financial security is built, not inherited. Engineering and an MBA in Finance gave me the technical foundation, and becoming a CFA Charter holder strengthened my understanding of markets and risk.

But it was my 16-year corporate journey that shaped my real perspective. I saw brilliant people stuck in jobs not because they loved them, but because they could not afford to leave. That is when financial independence became my mission. For me it was never just about a number, it was about freedom. My own early retirement at 39 made that belief even stronger.

Q. You have founded Profits First to guide people toward financial independence. What is the core mission behind this platform, and how is it helping individuals transform their financial lives?

Profits First was created with one intention. Make finance so simple that anyone can start their wealth journey with confidence. Most people do not need jargon. They need clarity, discipline, and guidance they can use immediately.

Through Profits First, we have coached more than 25,000 individuals and 10,000 SMEs. We teach practical money management, insurance planning, asset allocation, and long-term investing. The change is visible. People move from financially anxious to financially aware, from confused to confident. My goal is to ensure no one feels lost when dealing with their own money.

Q. Being a CFA and finance professional, what are your thoughts on the current investment landscape in India, especially for first-time investors?

India is in one of its strongest economic phases. Financial participation is rising, SIP inflows are at all-time highs, and more young investors are entering the markets with long horizons. This combination is powerful.

But first-time investors often get confused. They either chase quick returns or freeze because of too much information. My advice is simple. Start with the basics. Build an emergency fund, get proper insurance, and begin SIPs in broad-based equity funds. Stay patient. Avoid noise. India is a growth engine, and disciplined investors will benefit the most in the coming decade.

Q. Your growth on social media from zero to millions of followers has been remarkable. What do you think resonated most with people and contributed to this rapid rise?

People connect with honesty and simplicity. Personal finance is often filled with fear and complexity. I try to break that barrier.

Whether it is SIPs, mutual funds, or options trading, I explain concepts the way I would explain them to a friend. People do not want complicated charts. They want clarity, relatability, and practical guidance. I am grateful that this approach helped build a community of more than three million people who trust and share my work.

Q. Lastly, what is one powerful piece of advice you would like to give to young people who want to build financial freedom and a meaningful career?

Learn one skill deeply, earn consistently, and invest early. Money grows only when you give it time.

Financial freedom is not about quitting your job. It is about having the power to make choices without fear. Focus on discipline, not shortcuts. Your future self will thank you.
