Emilia: You Can Love Someone Deeply and Still Choose Yourself [Content Creator, 354K Followers, United States]

Emilia's Interview

Emilia

Originally from Ecuador and now based in the United States, Emilia is a creator and entrepreneur who has built a community of over a million followers with her relatable takes on dating, love, and life. Transitioning from the corporate world to running her own business, she opens up about navigating social media unpredictability, overcoming self-doubt, and the importance of finding peace in relationships.

Q. How would you introduce yourself to our readers beyond what they see on social media?

I’m Emilia! I’m originally from Ecuador, and I moved to the United States with a lot of dreams and honestly no idea where life would take me. Beyond social media, I’m someone who fights for her dreams and never gives up.

I’m a huge believer in love, manifestation, and the idea that you can completely reinvent your life whenever you want. I love travelling, discovering cute coffee shops, having deep conversations, and finding happiness in the smallest things.

I also have a business and a whole life behind the camera that people don’t always see. I’ve worked in the corporate world, started my own company, and changed directions more times than I can count. I’m still figuring things out, and I think that’s actually my favourite part of life. You don’t have to have everything figured out to create something beautiful.

Q. What inspired you to start creating content, and when did you realise it was connecting with people?

I honestly never imagined that posting videos on my phone would turn into my career. I started creating content because I loved expressing myself and sharing thoughts about love, dating, and all those little things we experience but don’t always talk about.

I think the moment I realised people were connecting with my content wasn’t even when the views started going into the millions. It was when I started reading comments from complete strangers saying, “Wait, I thought I was the only one who felt this way.”

That’s when it clicked for me. Sometimes all it takes is a seven-second video to make someone on the other side of the world feel understood.

Now I’ve built a community of over a million people across my platforms, which still feels crazy to say out loud. But my favourite part will always be knowing that something I created made someone laugh, feel less alone, or send a video to their best friend saying, “THIS IS SO US.”

Q. Your content feels relatable and fun. How do you come up with ideas that make people stop scrolling?

My brain literally never stops thinking, so I guess that helps, haha!

Most of my ideas come from real life. Dating experiences, conversations with friends, random thoughts at 2 a.m., or those situations where you think, “There’s no way I’m the only person who does this.”

I love taking something super simple and turning it into a video that makes people stop and go, “OMG, YES.”

I also think people can tell when you’re trying too hard to go viral. I’ve learned that sometimes the videos you spend five minutes making perform better than the ones you spent hours planning.

For me, the secret is making people feel something. Whether they’re laughing, questioning their love life, or immediately sending it to someone, I want my content to start conversations.

Q. What has been one of the biggest challenges in your content creation journey, and how did you navigate it?

I think one of the hardest parts has been learning that success on social media doesn’t automatically mean you have everything figured out.

People see millions of views, followers, brand collaborations, and assume your life must be perfect. But there have been so many moments when I’ve questioned myself, felt completely lost, or wondered what I was even doing.

Going from working a corporate job to building my own business and becoming a full-time creator was a huge adjustment. Suddenly, I wasn’t just making videos. I was running a business, negotiating contracts, dealing with rejection, and constantly thinking about what was next.

And social media can be so unpredictable. One day, millions of people are watching your videos, and the next day, you’re wondering why nobody is seeing them.

I’ve had to learn not to attach my worth to numbers. I’m still learning that, actually.

What keeps me going is remembering why I started. I didn’t leave one version of my life just to spend the next one being afraid of failing. I want to keep growing, trying new things, and building a life that actually makes me happy.

Q. If you could share one piece of relationship advice that you believe more people need to hear, what would it be?

Stop confusing anxiety with butterflies.

I think so many of us grow up believing love is supposed to be this emotional roller coaster where you’re constantly wondering how someone feels about you, waiting for a text, or trying to prove you’re worth choosing.

But I genuinely believe the right kind of love should bring you peace.

You shouldn’t have to overthink every little thing or beg someone to communicate with you. You deserve a love where you can be completely yourself, where you feel safe, and where you don’t have to question your place in someone’s life.

And something else I’ve learned is that loving someone doesn’t always mean they’re the right person for you.

You can love someone deeply and still choose yourself.

I think that’s one of the hardest but most important lessons about relationships.

Q. To end on a fun note, what’s one book, movie, or series you could revisit endlessly, and why?

Definitely The Notebook! I’m such a hopeless romantic, so I could watch that movie a million times and still cry like it’s my first time seeing it, haha.

I love stories about love, especially the kind that makes you believe two people can find their way back to each other no matter what life throws at them. I know it’s a movie, and real relationships are a lot more complicated, but there’s something so beautiful about a love story that stays with you.

And honestly, I think that movie is partly responsible for my ridiculously high expectations when it comes to romance, haha!
