Top 6 Competitive Entrance Exams in India




A major fraction of India's population falls under the age of 25, which is why we have one of the largest working forces in the world. Now, 50% of 1.3 billion is an enormous number, but the resources are limited and not everyone is lucky enough to easily gain the necessities required in one's life. The employment sector only produces a limited number of gaps to fill, but the demand is exponentially large, so this results in a very tough competition among individuals at every level, be it a high school pass out or a graduated individual. Here are some of the top competitive exams in India:

1. Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)

It is one of the toughest exams at the undergraduate level. The students aim to grab a seat in one of the prestigious Engineering Institutes in India (IIT: Indian Institute of Technology). The exam includes questions from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and almost all the basic concepts are covered from all of them. The exam has two phases, the first one is JEE Mains, and the later one is JEE Advanced. Candidates who clear the Mains can apply for admission into National Institute of Technology, and those who score well in Advanced, apply for various courses in the IIT's.

2. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) & All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)

NEET & AIIMS both are undergraduate level exams in the medical field. The top 54,000 candidates apply for the medical (MBBS, MD, MS) & dental courses (BDS, MDS). Majority of the questions asked come from Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.
AIIMS is one of the best medical colleges in India, that's why these are the most sought after colleges by medical aspirants. 

3. Civil Services Exam (CSE)

The Civil Services Exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the selection of candidates in IAS, IFS, and the IPS. Questions are asked from a variety of topics like History of India, Geography, Economics, General Science, Comprehension, Logical reasoning, Decision making, Basic numeracy, etc. It is a postgraduate level exam for the candidates above the age of 21 and below 32. Every year around 10lac candidates apply for the CSE and only around 1000 of them are selected.

4. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

GATE is a postgraduate level exam conducted by the various IIT's and IISc's.  Besides the aim of pursuing M.E./M.Tech/M.S at IISc& IITs, individuals also give the exam to have a better job profile. Every year, in the month of February, around 9lac candidates give this exam and only 15% of them qualify according to the qualification criteria.

5. Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)

Every year National Law Universities (NLUs) organize CLAT to select candidates for their undergraduate (LL.B) & postgraduate (LL.M) courses. NLU's are the top universities in India which provide courses in the field of Law. Every year, in the month of May, around 50k students write this exam to grab a seat in an NLU.

6. National Defence Academy (NDA)

NDA is an academy where cadets are trained for Indian Armed Forces namely, the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force. To get into the NDA, you are required to clear the written exam which goes by the name of NDA exam, and additionally, you need to clear the 5 days SSB interview. Candidates need to battle with Mathematics, English, and General Knowledge to reach the interview phase. Every year around 6 lac students write this exam and only 500 of them get past the interview process.
