Masters in Business Administration is undoubtedly a strong base that boosts your career growth. Choosing and joining one of the top business school in India is a tough task. The following is an attempt to ease the former along with providing an insight to the latter.
IIM Ahmedabad
Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad is undoubtedly the No.1 educational institution in India. It ranks at 29th position in top educational institutions at a global level and 21st in management institutions. Established in 1961, IIMA regulates the entrance of candidates through Common Admission Test (CAT).
IIMA offers 5 courses under 2 streams including MBA/PGDM, Executive MBA/PGDM, PhD. The eligibility of students is determined through CAT scores along with Analytical writing test and Personal Interview. The minimum cutoff for CAT scores is 99%.
IIM Ahmedabad is known for 100% placement record for students, that too within 3 days of the placement period. Some of the top recruiters were Google, Deloitte, JP Morgan etc.
IIM Calcutta
IIMC is the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, The first IIM, it was established in 1961. IIMC ranks 3rd according to NIRF just after IIM Ahmedabad. The institution offers 26 courses under 3 Major streams that include MBA/PGDM along with other executive programmes in HR Management, Digital Social Media Marketing, Banking and Financial sector, Data Sciences, Healthcare Management, Global Business Management etc.
The eligibility of candidates is tested through CAT, Written ability test and Personal Interview. The average placement package for the last academic year was 19-20 lacs per annum and the top recruiters were Accenture, Boston Consulting Group, Mahindra, Aditya Birla group etc.
IIM Bangalore
IIMB, established in the year 1973 holds the No.1 position according to NIRF as of 2019. Indian Institute of Management Bangalore offers 5 courses under 2 streams comprising of more than 1200 students. Just like all other IIMs, the eligibility of students is analysed through CAT scores where the minimum cutoff is 99% followed by Written ability test and Personal Interview.
For the last academic year, more than 140 companies visited IIMB for recruitment and the institute was able to secure 100% placement for students within 2-3 days of the placement period. The average pay scale was 20-21 Lacs per annum and the top recruiters were BAIN, KPMG, NOMURA, Google etc.
Xavier Institute of Management Jamshedpur
Xavier Institute of management shortly known as XLRI was established in 1949 and Ranked 7th by NIRF (2019). XLRI is also the No.1 private B-School in India and holds a 3rd position in management Institutes (Business Today 2018).
It offers 38 courses including specialisations in Human Resource Management, General Management, Global Business Management etc. The XAT score, experience, Academic performance, Personal Interview are the major determinants of eligibility in XLRI. It recorded 100% placement for its students where 360 were placed within 2 days at an average pay scale of 18 Lacs per annum while the top recruiters were Nestle, ITC, Boston Consulting, McKinsey etc.
IIT Kharagpur
IIT Kharagpur also is known as IIT kgp was established in 1951. As per NIRF records, IIT Kharagpur holds the 4th and 6th position in Engineering and Management respectively.
IIT Kgp offers 146 courses under 6 streams with 45 specialisations including Masters in HR management, MBA in Finance and Accounting, Marketing, HR, Operations, IT, General Management etc.
Eligibility is determined through CAT, GMAT and ATMA. Top recruiters for management students include Titan, PWC, ITC, Texas Instruments, Deloitte. IIT Kgp was able to secure 100% placement to its students at an average pay scale of 17 lacs per annum and the highest of 27Lacs per annum.
IIM Lucknow
IIM Lucknow or IIML is one of those IIMs which was established quite a long time after other major IIMs and still made to the meritorious position of 4th rank by NIRF in India. IIML was established in 1984 which offers 13 courses under a single stream.
Post Graduation in Agribusiness management, Sustainable management, Executive certificates in Business Analytics, General management program etc is some of the courses offered in IIML.
The top recruiters include Citi, JP Morgan Chase, BOA Merrill Lynch, DSP BlackRock etc.
The placement recorded 100% within a period of 3 days and the average pay scale was around 20 Lacs per annum.
IIM Kozhikode
Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode holds the 8th position in top management institutes of India according to NIRF. IIMK was established in 1996 covering 8 courses under 2 major streams. Other than general management branches IIMK also provides executive Post Graduation certificates in Marketing Management, Information Technology Management and Analysis, Strategic Management etc.
Eligibility of candidates is restricted through CAT scores where the minimum cutoff is 90%, Graduation, experience, 12th scores, WAT and personal interview.
IIMK achieved 100% placement in 6 days where the top recruiters were BCG, JP Morgan, ITC, Deloitte, McKinsey.
IIM Indore
As per NIRF 2019, Indian Institute of management Indore ranks at 5th position on top management institutes in India. IIMI, established as a new one in 1996, offers a wide range of 12 courses under 3 major streams including Business and Management Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences and Banking Finance and Insurance.
The entry into IIM Indore is regulated through CAT scores where the expected cutoff is 97-98% while minimum cutoff is 90%. Other factors like Scores in 10th and 12th grades, Performance in WAT and Personal Interview are also put under review. IIMI also holds good placement track as all of the students managed to secure placements with more than 250 companies including ITC, Cipla, HP, Barclays etc. The average pay scale was 18 lacs per annum and the highest was 64 Lacs per annum for the last academic year.
MDI Gurgaon
Management Development Institute of Gurgaon is one of the top b-schools among the Non-IIMs in India. MDI Gurgaon ranks 12th in the NIRF and ranks in the top 5 non-IIM management institutes. The institute offers 12 courses under 1 stream of Business and Management Studies. Even though being Non-IIM, MDI Gurgaon takes CAT for determining the eligibility of candidates along with MDI test. WAT, Personal Interview, Performance in Group Discussion is also considered for determining eligibility.
It recorded 100% placements for its students within 3 days of the placement period. An average pay scale of 19-20Lacs and the top recruiters were ITC, KPMG, Godrej, JP Morgan.
IIT Roorkee
One of the oldest educational institutions of India, established in the British period in 1847, The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee Ranks 11th in the top management institutes in India by NIRF. It offers 73 courses in 5 major streams including Business and Management studies.
CAT scores are primarily considered for determining eligibility where 90% is the minimum cutoff.
IITR has a good placement record where 163 companies visited last year which recorded placement with an average salary offer of 15Lacs per annum. The top recruiters were ONGC, Goldman Sachs, Amazon etc.
There are other IIMs and private business schools which provide quality education and good placements both in India and abroad.
