There is no good or bad time to watch movies and fall again for the craft of your favourite actors. Some open endings, some superbly made movies and one’s love for movies, all drives us to look forward to their spin-offs and sequels. Here is a list of 9 upcoming sequels that you need to watch.

1.Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

It has been 42 years since the first Star Wars movie launched and essentially kick-started a revolution in terms of movie effects and story-telling. George Lucas’s vision of a Trilogy of Trilogies finally comes to a close with The Rise of Skywalker. Just like every time before a Star Wars movie hits the theatres, speculations have been running rampant as to what happens in this one. But long-time fans will be rewarded for their devotion as J.J. Abrams returns to the Directorial chair for the long-awaited conclusion. It seems every part of the three trilogies have been exposed to a new generation of fans and caused extensive discussion and debate as to which one is better. However, this may be the one movie that brings everyone together.

2.Bad Boys for Life

This sequel has plagued the watch list for a long time. It has come close to becoming reality for a long time but with the trailer drop, we may finally get to see Will Smith and Martin Lawrence back in action. The iconic cop duo fit right into their old rhythm of inappropriately timed humour along with amazing one-liner that cracks you up.  With a Jan 2020 release date, it’s a movie to look out for.

3.Top Gun Maverick

Every kid that ever saw Top Gun irrespective of when it was, developed a fascination with shades, leather jackets, bikes and jets. It’s hard to imagine that Top Gun was released almost 34 years ago. But thanks to persistent efforts from Paramount Pictures, Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer will be reprising their roles as Maverick and Iceman. Miles Teller is also reportedly playing the son of Nick” Goose” Bradshaw. This trailer garnered almost as much fervour from fans at the San Diego Comic-Con as The Rise of Skywalker, and that’s saying something. Let us hope the Indiana Jones curse of long-awaited sequels does not affect Top Gun Maverick and its release date in June 2020.

4.The King’s man

Kingsmen 1 and 2 had created a rather comfortable niche for itself by creating a unique cocktail of action, mystery, comedy and fashion. However, it seems that director Matthew Vaughn wants to shake things up. From the looks of it, this movie will take place during or right after World War 1 and the incidents revolving around the formation of the Kingsmen. The unique characteristic of Kingsmen seems to shine through despite the darker overturns to the script. It is may also prove to be good enough as a standalone film if done properly. It has a scheduled release of Valentine’s Day 2020.

5.Jumanji: The Next Level

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillian return once again in the fourth instalment of the Jumanji movie. Yes, the fourth. Zathura: A Space Adventure is also considered a part of the Jumanji franchise. Danny DeVito and Donny Glover will be joining the returning cast for another jungle adventure which will hopefully take us to the next level. Its release is scheduled for December 2019.

6.Doctor Sleep

Doctor Sleep is based on a novel by Stephen King. With these words alone, you know it is going to be a thrilling ride. Moreover, this is a direct sequel to the 1980 horror classic, The Shining. Ewan McGregor stars as Dan Torrence or more commonly known as Johnny “Here’s Johnny!” This movie will follow his journey as an adult. So, all your horror fanatics, get ready because this sequel is ready to hit the screens in November 2019.

7.Death on the Nile

Hercule Poirot returns with his gravity-defying moustache in the sequel to A Murder on The Orient Express. As we disembarked the Orient Express, a British Army messenger asked Poirot to investigate a Death on the Nile, so we definitely knew a sequel was possible. Since the last one was spectacularly star-studded, we can expect the same for the sequel. Gal Gadot, Letitia Wright, Armie Hammer, Russell Brand, Rose Leslie and Ali Fazal are just a few of the names already confirmed. The release date is scheduled for October 2020.

8.The Hitman’s Bodyguard’s Wife

Anyone who even saw the trailer of the first instalment knew from the get-go that The Hitman’s Bodyguard was going to be a classic. You had Samuel L Jackson at all of his swearing potentials while Ryan Reynolds was at his quippy Deadpooley best. Salma Hayek let loose like never before and managed to be a complete scene-stealer every time. All 3 will return for this undoubtedly amazing sequel. But if that wasn’t enough, Frank Grillo, Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman himself are reported to be a part of this movie. I’m not kidding. I will die in my seat if I see Deadpool, Nick Fury, God and Crossbones in one frame. Not a sentence I’d ever thought I’d say out loud.

9.Avatar 2

It took Avengers Endgame two tries to topple the record set by Avatar back in 2009 is set to return for 2 more sequels. James Cameron returns with further breakthroughs in science as he has delayed the movie’s release because he wanted to perfect Motion Capture underwater. Avatar 2 and 3 were shot simultaneously with reprising roles from Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana along with new additions Kate Winslet and David Thewlis. It is also reported that Vin Diesel has also signed on although it is unclear for which sequel. No word has as yet come out about the release date, trailer or even the name of the sequel.
