1. Tell us more about your role and responsibilities in your society?

Indraprastha College for Women has always embraced its natural beauty and is highly focused on women empowerment. This college has provided students with diverse opportunities to explore and express themselves and with facilities to help them grow and develop. I entered this college with a lot of hopes and was really excited to be part of the vibrant societies. In trying to prove myself and setting no limits to my capabilities I submitted my candidature for the post of General Secretary of the Sociology department. Finally, I got selected and currently I am the General Secretary of the core team of 'Hypatia'- The Sociology Society of IPCW. My prime responsibility is to prepare in conjunction with the President and Vice- President the agenda for the department meetings and ensure that the meetings are effectively organised. I am also responsible for ensuring that all the members are kept informed of all the details of the meeting and to give proper notice. I also deal with the arrangements for visiting speakers and events. As a general secretary my role is to support the core team in ensuring proper functioning of the society as a whole.

2. How challenging is it to maintain a balance between the society work and college?

Holding a position like that of a general secretary is definitely not an easy task. This is not just a post but it carries a great amount of responsibilities and expectations. But one can always find a way if they are really dedicated or passionate towards what they do. So, maintaining my academics, friendships and managing the society equally and striking out a balance was challenging for me in the initial period but gradually everything became normal for me. This post has given me an identity in this college so I need to overcome all the challenges that comes in my way and push my boundaries beyond limit.

3. As a student leader, what is the one major challenge that you have overcome?

One major challenge that I have overcome as a student leader is the conflict between my academic pursuits and leadership roles. The role as a student leader has taught me to prioritise things and strike a balance between them and also made me understand the value of time management. It has taught me to enjoy things that I do and not only consider it as a duty or responsibility. This has really made my college life much easier and fun. It has prepared me to face the real world outside the college.

4. Do you feel that the current role at your society will be one of your stepping stones towards success in life?

The current role as a General Secretary of 'Hypatia'- The Sociology society of IPCW has provided me with the exposure of experiencing many new things in life. It has helped me to develop my personality altogether. It has given me a platform to focus on my leadership and management skills. It has given me an opportunity to handle multiple tasks at the same time and enhance my public speaking skills. These qualities in me will definitely help me in the future and to become a successful person.

5. Do you think parents’ support plays a role in deciding whether a student has an active extra-curricular life or not? What is your message to all the parents?

Parents are definitely a source of support in one's life. Parents should always allow their children to do what interests them. They should encourage their children to break their self-made boundaries and come out of their comfort zones and also experience new things in life. It might happen that a child may not be good in studies but he/she might be good in other extra-curricular activities. My parents always encouraged me to take part in different types of activities or competitions in school or wherever I get a chance. This has boosted my self-confidence and because of that I never hesitate or fear to participate in any competition or to perform on the stage. My parents made me who I am today and this was all possible because of their constant support. So, my message to all the parents is that please let your children do what they want to do in their life and let them explore themselves.

6. What's your message to encourage students to do internships and attend conferences?

Students should definitely take up internships and attend conferences. Internships provide a great platform to apply the knowledge from the classroom to real world experience. Internships will give you the experience in the field you want to pursue in the future and will also help in building a professional network. Conferences are also an important part of one's academic life. By engaging in all these, one can learn a lot more things and gain a better understanding of what they are learning in college can help them in their future.
