1.
Tell us more about your experience as an educator?
Teaching
goes with the learning. It is a process that includes many outliner variables.
But interaction with the learners is the most beautiful part, it has given
me goals of my life and I have learned many new things that incorporate new
knowledge, behaviours, and skills. Now after 17 years of experience, I have
worked with more than 5 institutions at more than 5 places including 2 states.
Starting from a guest lecturer, I have worked even as Principal in charge too.
I had a very good experience with my students too, as I always believe before
going in the class that students don’t know about anything and I have to start
from the basics with the small revision of the work covered, be a friend to my student
and understand their requirement well. This has given very good learning
experiences of my students.
I don’t know that when my journey has turned
into my passion, today when I see my achievement, I again remember writing my
first book, presenting my first research paper, publishing my first research
paper into journal of repute, I feel very happy from my work. Today, I have
more than 14 books published, more than 50 research paper publication,
presented research into more than 50 national and international conferences,
more than 3 research and industrial research project to my credit.
2. What is your opinion of the Indian education system and how would you like to change that?
The institutional framework of higher education in India consists of Universities and Colleges with ministry of Education, UGC and NAAC as accreditation, controlling and Regulatory bodies. As reported in 2015, India has 760 universities and 38,498 colleges. There are three types of universities: Conventional Universities, Deemed Universities and Institutions of National Importance. This education system is now behind the growth of the students, but it is not seems into the right direction since I believe that the industrial, industry approved and validated courses are very less. We are just going towards the old system that has become obsolete.
In
my views we have to update this system with the industry ready courses, where
first the need of industry is to be identified and then the industry ready
courses is to be launched with the industrial support including a complete year
industrial training, making students aware about the industry need and become
more industry ready employees, further specific courses in the only area of the
interest of the students must be developed and added into their curriculum.
3. What changes in the teaching methodologies have you seen in the recent times?
The teaching methodology have changed and improved in the recent past. During the last 10 years we have seen the OHP projectors and OHP sheets as added technology and that has also became obsolete with the new and incoming Projector based teaching. The student’s reliance from the old books help extended towards the online resources. I am fortunate too, that with the vision of wisdom, our SPS University has provided us all the available resources and it is well used for making our students understand about the difficult concepts in easy way.
4.
How does education help one do well in their career?
The students have to learn a few things from the indefinite knowledge available in the form of step by step learning method under the current education system. The knowledge given to them will be helpful for them to excel their carrier in the industrial world. I always give my students the live example of the concepts and their used in the industry so that they can relate it with the real world situation and do well in their career.
5.
Do you think teaching as a profession is viewed at par with corporate jobs?
Teaching as a profession requires more attention and more improvement rather than stereotype fixed job in the industry. We have to develop ourselves as we never know about the questions raised by our students. Our perfectness or accepting the level of lack of awareness about the new emerging field of knowledge makes us more challenging and more efficient rather than in corporate job. Further, it is our responsibility to understand the need of the corporate and develop the students ready for the industry, thus everyone agrees that our profession is more demanding and challenging.
6. How can we adopt technology to
make teaching more effective?
A teacher, in my view must be a learner and should be ready for the challenges that are coming in the field of education. As I have stated that the technology is changing very fast and no one can be excluded from the change, for us it is matter of accept the change or you will be rejected. Thus learning through conferences, workshop, online courses and from the experts of the our area with the online tools like NPTEL, Swayam and other webinars, lecture series will make us more ready for the future.
7. Why does India need more
educators like you?"
Educator like me, who always ready to update the knowledge in the subject area is needed for providing the updated knowledge to their students, further an educator should be self-aware and teach the knowledge as per the level and requirement of the industry and as per after a good understanding of the level of the students.
Another good thing for a good educator is to Perceive,
Understand and Value Differences between the learning goals of the students for
himself. Further, the world is changing and so does the teaching methodology
should be improved and a good educator has to take the risk for understanding
the learning the new modes and provides the benefits of the same to the
students. For gaining the knowledge it will use workshop, conferences, capacity
building program or faculty development program to learn new methodologies and
adopt in their teaching.
Thus,
it is believed that as an educator I have done my part very well and the same
is also given to me by my students even after so many years, still today I can
believe that my students are my strength.
8. Which is your favourite
book and why?
As
per the interest and subject of my study, my favourite book should be a book of
related with research technique.
Yes,
it is Multivariate Data Analysis by Hair, Black, Babin and Anderson. This book
provides a very good understanding of applications-oriented introduction to
multivariate analysis for the non-statistician. The special feature of the book
is use of fundamental concepts, the text explains how to understand and make
use of the results of specific statistical techniques by reducing heavy
statistical research. The book presents the basics to the latest research tool
for of structural equations modelling, reflect advances in technology,
capability, and mathematical techniques. As I want to use the new techniques
and learn the same, this book is very useful and a worthy book for me.
