1. Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is the first and finest novel. This is a romantic novel of drama with mannerism. Moby-Dick is an 1851 novel by American writer Herman Melville. This is an adventurous fiction in the narrative of Ishmael. Similarly, this deals with the voyage of the ship and planning of revenge on Moby-Dick. This novel is regarded as the ‘Great American novel’ by the critics. 

6. To Kill a Mockingbird

This novel by Harper Lee is a classical novel in modern American literature. Characters are set as the incidents happening around society. Novel deals with the societal inequality and cases of molestation. This novel is one of the widely read in America along with students and all age group. This novel stands up with racial injustice. 

7. Ulysses

Ulysses is novel by Irish writer James Joyce is based on modernist literature. This is a complete display and summarization of the movement. This is a novel promoting a completely different way of thought that was never done before. Novel deals with ongoing parallels between Homer’s epic poem Odyssey. 

8. The Big Sleep

The Big Sleep is a novel by the writer Raymond Chandler. This novel is a crime or detective novel. The novel was the first to feature Philip Marlowe as a detective. Los Angeles is the city in which the setup of the novel is based. The story creates amazing suspense with the event being exposed at certain intervals by the narrative thus creating a sequence towards the title or the death.

9. Wuthering Heights

Wuthering Heights is a novel by Emily Brontë. This is a tragic novel of English literature. The novel received contradicting responses as the theme of absolute conviction of the idea of cruelty challenged the Victorian literature.
